We have got to start telling people that they are UNINFORMED
if they rely exclusively on the mainstream media for their news

newspapers,tv,talk radio are not enough

I plan on using the word "filtered news"

I plan on challenging people to start to broaden their sources of news

The internet still scares too many people

Or is it that most of us just don't have time?

3. Great idea. People LOVE being told about their shortcomings.
I've always found that to be the best way to convince them of something: cop a superior attitude.

Works every time.

4. I've been telling my parents that for years
Yet they still only watch Faux. They've been taught that every tidbit of news on the Internet is false, regardless of the source.

So, how do I get through to them?

5. Uninformed, Misinformed, and Malinformed.
Uninformed: Not told things.

Misinformed: Told something which is technically true, but only in limited cases, without being told than in MOST cases, it's untrue.

Malinformed: Told blatant lies.

All seems to be true for most of the US population today.

8. you can use Fox News to your advantage
If I am ever arguing with my Rep friends via email, I'll try to use information (when it is available) from sources they won't dismiss.

It goes something like this...

Hey Bobby Bushlover, check out this tidbit from FoxNews.com:
"Diebold's chairman and chief executive officer, was criticized in August 2003 for having a $1,000-a-plate Republican fund-raiser at his suburban Columbus home. In a letter inviting people to attend, O'Dell said he was "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,121949,00.html

I think it's a lot more effective that saying "check out this tidbit from MichaelMoore.com."
