4. the problem with 24 hour news
is they just sit there and parrot the real news, or whatever other outsider people tell them.

IE Washington post covers the congress report on abstinence program and CNN has been covering it all day...

Although it is important, I am positive OTHER things are happening in the world today.

6. Serious and hardhitting. Stuff that the powerful would WANT to watch for

knowledge, even if so many of them disagree. It must be accurate so that folks can watch it for information that helps them start small buisnesses and compete against the big guys.

Big! Colorful! Easy to comprehend.

Cover the stuff that makes DUers angry. If these things make us angry they'll make Lots and LOTS of folks in America angry, too. And that means people are tuning in to see this stuff on their TVs.

7. If ever there was a need, it's now
We need a place where our leaders can get their message out, where Dems can go after a long hard day on the Senate or House floor, and give their two (five?) cents' worth. They just can't get face time on the networks because all they want to do is cover Bush farting ... If the "Fairness Doctrine" has been eliminated, we need an entire network to counteract all the right-wing propaganda out there!

8. kick for logic thinking
but of course, Dems don't watch TV enough.

Dems only want to watch CNN and MSGOP.
I've heard progressives actually advocate watching some shows on those stations here at DU!

12. yeah i know
I dont even think I want to stoop to fox level and have a left leaning network, although it would be nice, to balance off fox. My choice is to simply not watch them at all. Too bad so many other suckers are taken in so easily.

17. Exactly...
That's why we have to hypnotise the masses with OUR network and tell them what they need to know.

I'm, kidding, sort of!

16. This is the ONLY way things are ever going to change
If there is not a TV media presence, a news network or at least a network that does real news, things are never going to change.

There are a majority of voters that get all their information from TV. They do not read books, they do not do much on-line. They do not even actively seek news on TV, they just passively watch and uncritically accept what is on TV.

Even if we had a "reality" news show (we do, it's called "Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman) on a major network it could do wonders.

There has to be extensive coverage of stories like Enron, Harken, the impact of EPA deregulation, the regressive tax cuts, with follow-up stories past the "stream-of-consciousness" reporting of 24/7 news networks.

Imagine a show like 20/20 or 60 minutes - one hour per week, with stories by Greg Palast, Amy Goodman, Wayne Madsen, Al Franken, Molly Ivens, David Corn, the journalists from The Nation. Better would be a 24/7 network with journalists like that. Constantly covering and re-covering and following up on stories like the Project Censored stories or the stuff on Buzz Flash. Hopefully, they could draw other networks into covering the stories by shaming them and pointing out what the other networks are NOT covering.
