How would splitting the electoral votes in states like California help us?
Has anyone done an analysis on whether a nationwide splitting up of the electoral votes would actually help us?

1. It wouldn't
CA is a gift. 55 electoral votes for Dems. If we split up the votes, there is a significant enough amt of Republican presence to give at least 20 ECs to the Repubs. No thanks, I'd rather give all the ECs to Dems.

5. You're right
Check out the county-by-county map. There's a big swath of interior CA that's red ...

2. well if you split up the blue states only it surely doesnt.
on principal though, i think it is more fair than all or nothing. has to be across the country though. not politically targeted.

3. I'd go for that
nationally that is. I'd rather get rid of the EC, though.

splitting states in any blue states hurts us. It ain't gonna happen... and if it did.....we are talking about Deep Sticky Doo-Doo for the Democrats from that point out.

6. yes, this would basicly cause the entire LA county's population
to get one EV. but they will give an entire county of 2000 people the same 1 vote too.

7. it is a Republican idea
It could only hurt. The Republicans would pick up far more from California and New York than the Democrats would ever gain from Idaho and Wyoming, etc.

People who are opposed to the electoral college as anti-democratic should give this some serious thought. The electoral is a check against precisely the sort of publicly supported tyranny we are seeing now. If the popular whim of the moment - as whipped up by fear-mongering demagogues - is allowed unbridled power, tyranny will inevitably be the result.
