"Help is on the Way" - what line should Kerry have used?

I thought the slogan, "Help is on the Way" was pretty weak and uninspiring. What should Kerry and the Democrats have used instead?

I almost cried on election night when I saw that sign at a Dem function and I was watching the returns on Ohio. Help WAS on the way. Too bad.

17. When Kerry (accidentally?) let slip that line about the "crooks and liars"

it was broadcast on all the news channels for days. In fact, it seems that was the most press the Kerry campaign ever got — perhaps his advisors should have taken a hint from that.

"Hope is on the way" was a much better slogan. It totally fit Edwards. "Help is on the way" seemed kind of like a cheap rip of of Edwards statement. It was too ambiguous. Left too many questions unanswered.

An electric thrill went though me when I heard and saw the "Hope is on the way" slogan.

A cold dread went through me when I heard "Help is on the way". HELP buys into every ugly "Big Government" "Tax and Spend" "We're from the government and we're here to help you" stereotype.

WE'RE THE PEOPLE! WE DON'T NEED HELP FROM SOME GUY IN A SUIT AND TIE!

We'll help ourselves.

We need hope.

We need to hope that the American people will wake up to the egrigious theft of the election.

We need to hope that the lying, oil-soaked, power mad cabal will be broken.

We need to hope that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, will not perish from the Earth.

...didn't Bush run in 2000 with a promise of "restoring honor and dignity to the White House" or words to that effect (thereby implying that Clinton had ruined honor and dignity). Here is what we got from Bush & Co. as examples of honor and dignity:

A very religious man gets caught in a flood, and he ends up on top of his house, as the water rises, they send every kind of rescuer they have available. A four wheel drive truck, then a couple of boats, then a helicopter, and finally an airplane that lands on the water.

He keeps turning down their help and telling each one. “That’s OK, the good lord is going help me. Help is on the way.”

Finally he ends up clinging to his antenna on top of his house and the water rushes over his head and he drowns.

and God says to him “ You are so dumb, I heard your prayers, and I sent you a truck, a couple of speed boats, a helicopter and an airplane.”


Every time I heard, help is on the way, I thought about that joke.
