If we hate the DLC so much, then why are they our party's face?
Just was reading in the news, that whenever there's a quote from the Democrats about soul-searching and whatnot, its from the good people at the Democratic Leadership Council advocating a move to the right. Why is this? I'm growing increasingly distressed that the Democrats are just becoming another Republican party and I want answers.

1. They aren't... they are our noisy ass.
The media is feeding their egos --and that's all the DLC leaders are about.

21. It's not the media!!!
The dem party is a grassroots organization.... but if the grassroots says nothing... well, they say nothing. And our party was hijacked.

Honestly, we need to 1. take our party back -- oust the DLC; 2. take the power back at the local level.

20. They aren't!!!
They just took over... and the dem leadership said, "oh okay.. boy, look at all that money rolling in from corps!" And the PEOPLE didn't say anything. And there they are... running OUR party!!!

26. Ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
got exclamation?

I think the DLC lost control of the party after Bush 'won' the first time and the are trying to get it back under their control. But Dems are so angry about losing to Bush again that only the talking heads of the DLC are saying "go right." Everyone else on the 'ground floor' is saying "we've tasted the right and we don't like it!"

Sure there will always be those conservative Dems who lean right. But I think this pendulum is swinging back the other way. The question is how long will it take and how far to the left will it swing?

After 4 more years of Bush tearing this country apart and our diminishing respect in the world, their is very likely going to be a resurgence of liberal ideals --only they may not be called 'liberal' by then --just 'sane.'

4. It's our own damn fault
We need to let our reps know that we won't support them if they move right.

We don't need the far-right fringe GOP running against the center-right DLC.

Screw it. If the DLC takes over the party, I'm gonna find a NEW party to vote for.

And I'm gonna let my reps know it.

5. Its like my uncle said:
He's a socialist, and dosnt think much of the Dems, so here's what he said:
"Democrats and Republicans are the same, act the same and do the same things, but it happens slower with Democrats."
I don't believe that's true, but I think it may become true.

12. It's like buying a car
If you walk into the showroom knowing the only car you'll buy is a particular model by a particular manufacturer, you're gonna get screwed.

You have to be prepared to walk away.

If the Dems move any further right, they won't represent me, anyway. (I'm a social ultra-liberal who believes in personal freedom above all else, and a fiscal conservative who believes that we really DON'T need to spend more on our military than the next 47 nations combined.)

Right now, the Dems come the closest to representing me, but they don't have it right, and they're not winning elections. I say we "throw the fear of God" into 'em, and demand they represent us.

Do we really have anything to lose? ( o/ Freedom is just another word for... o/ )

7. How, though?
I guess my rep would be John Edwards because I'm in NC and that's the only Democrat I know of offhand.

What can we do, though, to take an issue with the DLC? I definitely think they have far to accomodating as of the last 8 years (and I'm in a Red State, do I count?), but I'm so frustrated. It feels almost like dealing with a car dealership.

10. Me, too!
I'm with the Democratic wing (Progressive wing) of the Democratic party, and I'm a force to be reckoned with!

And I'm going let my reps know it!

And I love Michael Moore, and if they don't, they can .... Cheney themselves.

They could have gracious, and just said, 'well, he represents one part of the party. We're a big tent, and we work together on our common goals.' But noooo.... they had to make dumb remarks about they had to stifle him or something.

They'd better not try.

23. It isn't about demanding anything from our federal reps...
It's about taking our party back at the local level. Seriously, it is soooooooooooooooooo easy. Take it back at the local level and vote the 'big guys' at the top out.

8. The reason they advocate moving to the right
is because that's what they're corporate masters tell them to say. The DLC is simply a kinder, gentler, republican party. I think the left wing needs to figure out a way to grab hold of the party, but I'm not sure how.

The only time they worked was with Clinton... and he really shouldn't have happened. They outlived their usefullness when Clinton left office.

11. They are only your party's face
when you continue to feed the party. Stop giving ANY $ to the dems and let them know why if you've the opportunity. It's the only way they're gonna change. Same tactic (with a twist) that we were using on Sinclair a few months ago. Vote for your party's leadership with your "pocketbook".

Like, if you sign the petition, you have to contact your local, state and national Dem reps to let them know.

That's why I haven't given them any more $, Gyre. I've decided to work through MoveOn and our local Democracy for America, which is very progressive. Maybe Progressive Democrats of America. Definitely Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign.

Woo those members, and I'll pay attention.

22. I don't know why the Democratic Party allowed the DLC in to begin with
They were sold a bill of goods and got screwed at the end of the 1980s when they first arrived. Now we have them under our tent.

What needs to happen most is that we need to take a stand against people who are willing to bend to corporations because they take corporate cash. This party supposedly was for the working man and woman in this country, but it's appallingly apparent that corporations are increasingly gaining more power in the party at the expense of workers.

This party needs to cast off the chains of corporatism before it begins to rise to the surface once again. Right now, we're drowning, and we need to cut loose the weights. We're going to see our republic die under the weight of corporatism if we continue this way, and Hitler would be laughing his sick ass off in hell at us 60 years after we supposedly defeated the scourge of corporatism (aka fascism).

27. Hopefully everyone will join the effort to have a non-DLCer
head-up the DNC when Terry McAwful steps down. Daily Kos and many other progressive bloggers are talking about making sure our voice is heard in the vote.
