We need to lobby George Soros to buy Diebold...
If we can convince him to buy the companies that own the black boxes we stuff our ballots into, maybe we can have a fair election in 2006. Also, if he were to take ownership, he would have access to all the internal memos and documents (assuming they weren't destroyed) that show how Wally O'Dell and friends stole this election for Shrub (as promised)

God knows he has the money, and it would probably be a cash cow for him. Stop by his web site and drop him a line. :)

4. My first thought too.
Then we would really see bipartisan support for open source code.

2. Even George Soros Doesn't Have Enough Money
How much is control of the United States government worth?

3. Doesn't solve the problem

If the problem is private ownership of (part of) the election system, then changing to a different private owner doesn't solve the problem.

The only real solution would be if "we the people" would reclaim ownership.

5. well, how about a bake sale?
how about if we have a sponser, maybe Soros, and along with him we earn money, donations, bake sales, etc. and purchase it. I happen to trust him and it would at least feel good to be working towards something rather than worrying and complaining.

8. Your post saved me the trouble of saying exactly what you said!
Why should anyone make money because of people casting ballots?

A plain box filled with paper ballots is quite sufficient

We simply need MORE precincts with fewer registered voters so that the results can be easily and quickly counted by hand

Like Canada

6. That's like hoping I can stop a drunk driver from hurting people,
by simply purchasing his car from him.

Diebold is not the problem - it's the vehicle. If someone takes it over, they'll just buy or create another vehicle to do their dirty work.

We need a more comprehensive solution, such as real election reform.
