11. You mean this quote.....
...``But, the justice asked, "Did it turn out that, by reason of the separation of church and state, the Jews were safer in Europe than they were in the United States of America? I don't think so."''

Uhmm, that does not appear that Scalia said or is implying that Jews are safer with Christians in charge, only that in the United States where the word "God" was freely used, Scalia suggests that nothing like the holocaust against Jews has ever occurred. He is full of crap of course because in the U.S. it has been demonstrated repeatedly throughout our violent history that countless atrocities and injustices have been committed against racial and religious minorities in the name of God.

7. Scalia. Mad Cow Disease?
He's certainly exhibiting the signs. Lying or deluded. Even if he knows he's lying, he must know the people he's lying to don't believe him. It's not like there is no history to refute him.
So why does he bother?
Or is it just to put a finger in their eye? I can lie and smirk at you and there is nothing you can do about it, kind of thing?
Such juvenile behavior. Either he never grew up (of course a possiblity) or he's reverting to... something.
Certainly explains why he doesn't allow the press to record his speeches.
:puke:

8. Scalia has never let
Something so trivial as facts get in the way of his arguments propounding the way the world used to be (but never actually was).

13. There's also the Crusades, Dreyfus Affair, Inquisition, pogroms in Russia.
Too many other examples to note. In fact until the 20th century (and 'til the middle of that century for the most part), Jews were a lot safer in Muslim Middle Eastern countries than most of Europe. Almost all the really nasty anti-Semitic massacres until the 1900s took place in Europe. The Crusaders, we should remember, greeted the Jews in the Levant with just as much brutality as they did the Muslim Seljuk Turks and Kurds. The Jews were viciously expelled from Spain, England, France, and most of Central Europe around the same time; Poland took them in but anti-Semitism soon sprouted up there as well. Jews were targeted in much of the US until recently, not only by the KKK; read some of Henry Ford's tracts, he was virulently anti-Semitic and IIRC the guy reprinted the Protocols of the Elders of Zion at some point. (FWIW in the 1800s, Jews had attained substantial success and prosperity in Germany, where they were quite prominent and respected in the sciences and other professions. Nobody at that time would have predicted that a Holocaust would occur there in the next century-- just a warning, I guess, that history can take some nasty and unpredictable turns in the most unlikely places. A warning for us in the "it can't happen here" USA.)

In spite of recent history, Jews and Arabs have an awful lot in common with each other culturally. Sunni Islam derives many of its features from Judaic Law and the writings of the Old Testament, and Jewish and Arab peoples both speak a similar Semitic language and follow some common customs. (Muhammad himself was allied with the Jews in Medina for many years, and even after the rift in relations many of the caliphs in the Umayyad and Abbasid empires allied themselves with Jewish residents of the empires.) Ironically, some leaders in Britain and France during the 20th century spoke cynically about pitting the Jewish and Muslim peoples of the Middle East against each other, so they could colonize the region and grab the oil and other resources. I guess one could say they got their wish, but as usual unintended consequences meant that things didn't exactly work out as they planned-- the Brits and French were kicked out, and now the US has become a hegemon being bloodied every day in Iraq, which was Britain's disaster in the 1920s. And the Israeli-Palestinian mess makes things miserable for the West every day it drags on in its miserable course.
