Why (some) White Men worship Bush?
Though this seems far fetched - to say some ‘white men’ worship a flawed human being like President Bush - it is true, horribly so. Anyone who has listened or been exposed to mass media and talk radio, the most interactive element of political media in our society, must have noticed the relentless parade of bush supporters who have some things in common. They are males, overwhelmingly white, well educated, well fed, well spoken and all round well to do. If any demographic can afford to defy convention and demand higher standards of public policy makers and institutions, it’s the ‘white male’ demographic….but au contraire! They are in fact among the most belligerent and insistent on giving George Junior Bush (called ‘Geeb’ by the Bush family, a variation on ‘Jeb’ for the younger brother John Ellis Bush, according to Fox news) as much rope as he needs to hang us all! The question remains: why?
The divinity of the younger George Bush and second US president of that name is based upon faith, which white men, especially those middle and upper class ones employed in media, business, law enforcement and hard labour, have in super abundance. One can conclude this faith based belief is nurtured by our ridiculously wealthy society and the special place white men have in it, the special status and ‘distinction’ as Joseph Conrad called it in one of his tomes. Unfortunately, the world is changing, and what has historically served the privileges of the few no longer does so, at least man-to-man. As gun lovers like to point out, we’re all big men (and equal) under the aegis of Mr Colt 45, or was that Mr Smith and Wessen(?) Regardless of who, the fact remains that a Mr AK47 can kill someone before he even hears the sound of the shot, in other words, lights out! That was ok until nonwhite native types discovered the AK 47, which transformed the world more then any good intentions or missionary positions. The reason vast swaths of the planet are no longer colonies is the effect of the likes of AK47; which have killed too many white men, and made the exploitation of nations not quite as cost effective as before when spears and arrows were the nonwhite weapon of choice. Naturally, this seachange in the relationships between the missionary’s position and uppity natives with guns has unsettled the spirit of some, the world over. Couple that with the ‘liberal’ success in demeaning everything sacred (while glorifying hip hop and all the rest of the other silly dances with wolves ‘kumbya’) especially the old masters like Aristotle and Andrew Marvell, Dryden, Proust and Goethe (whatever they are, you know they’re wise, which is the point) and of course Shakespeare and St Augustine, whose only failing (this is author’s explanation of white men’s anger) is that they’re old, dead and of course white!
When a house is afire, a sensible person pours water on the flames to put the fire out. Same thing when a devil runs amok: a sensible reaction is to pray for relief, if that’s needed. Apparently the changing of power relationships the dominant (white) male has experienced has caused him to seek relief in the Lord….and Geeb somehow fits the bill to a T. George Junior is a common sort, very run of the mill according to his admirers in mass media. When he stands in front of the Great Seal, he looks, well like Jesus did; sans beard (which is too hippie leftist, really) and that long girlish hair. In fact, the long hair Jesus wore always made his politics kind of suspicious, and that ‘blessed are the poor’ stuff, well that was so September 10th! At any rate, Geeb’s common-ness, his aw shucks personality, and his devotion to the cause of righteousness- who can deny that he’s probably a godly man, maybe even THEE GODLY man. As the good book always said, faith is the LAST step on earth and the FIRST step in eternity! That’s why some white men, including me*, worships Bush

*Actually I’m only half white, but just guess what’s the smarter half; As a result, I only half adore Geeb.

1. it's not FAITH the the "white men" you describe have in abundance
it's arrogance and a disproportionate sense of entitlement.

faith is merely their defence mechanism.

6. This is the very thing that we accuse the Repugs of doing, raw racism
How can anyone read this trash and not condemn your position is beyond my comprehension.. Pure unadulterated BS, and I am ashamed that I took the time to even grace it by reading it..

8. read 'Twilight of Common Dreams' by Todd Gitlin
it was from latter years of clinton era...before bush, before 911. In that book, gitlin talks about how an extraordinary thing happened in US politics: the most powerful segment of the population (white males) suddenly felt they were an abused minority! they never were, since the white right controlled the mass media the whole time (see the clinton impeachment for evidence)...
actually i wrote it hoping to piss off people who like limbah-humbug, o'really, hannazi, oscar savage weiner etc etc etc (and aware many 'white men' who are members of DU etc might find the premise offensive...racism is a tool of blind selfishness, but blind selfishness rules the world, and you can't not deny that)

10. A little bit of grammar goes a long way
It's not just to help the poor reader along, it also attests to the orderliness of one's mind and the respect for society.

Presentation counts, dammit.

People who don't take the time to learn convention and properly edit their spew turn readers off to their ideas, and the world is full of first-draft wizards.

When you compose something for others, you have an obligation to care about their time and the efforts they're making to read it.

Beyond that, sloppy writing is a sign of sloppy thinking, and it makes one wonder whether this person's read much of anything by the people named or really thought much at all beyond glancing impressions.

Be serious, too: RICH white folk aren't the overriding constituency of the Republicans. Yes, many rich white folk who are greedy support him, but many are po' white trash, confused middle-class people and racists of all stripes and strata. Educational level is now as good a determinant for voting Democratic as religious attendance is for Republicans.

Slapdash wisdom is tiresome.

12. I am not sure if you looked at the 2004 exit poll demographics breakdown

With all the hoopla about moral issues and values, people still largely vote in favor of their own economic interest and along racial and gender lines. Income levels, race and gender are still very solid determinants.

                   Bush  Kerry

Under $15,000    36%  63%
$15-30,000    42%  57%
$30-50,000    49%  50%
$50-75,000    56%  43%
$75-100,000   55%  45%
$100-150,000   57%  42%
$150-200,000   58%  42%
>= $200,000    63%  35%

Non-white women voted 75% democratic and white men voted 62% republican. Pretty large departure from the 51-48 overall results.

But educational level is not at all a good determinant. More high school and college graduates voted for Bush than for Kerry. Kerry had more "no high school" voters than Bush had.

13. yeah, but drop-out Rove answered "someone with a graduate
degree" when asked who would likely vote Dem.

I suspect the drop-out was correct.

14. According to Thomas Frank, it's because Dems have stopped trying to appeal
to them with a message about economics.
