Poll question: Poll for Dean Supporters: Who is your #2? |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 10:09 PM by Don Claybrook
No, I'm not giving up, not by a long way. But tonight does give me pause and make me think about all of the what if's. So, if Howard Dean doesn't happen to get the nomination, who is your #2 choice? Happily, mine is Kerry. What about you?
I didn't include Gephardt, since he's dropping out.
Dean supporters only, please.
Edit: if you choose Green/Other/Not Voting, please be kind enough to write an explanatory post. There have been accusations by other camps that Dean people wouldn't vote for anyone else. I don't think that's true, and I hope this poll doesn't get internally "freeped" by someone trying to create a perception that's not there. So Dean people who won't vote for another Democrat, please reply to the thread in addition to voting.

15. I'll be voting Green if Dean is not on the ticket... |
|
I will be voting for Democrat if Dean is Vice-President as well.
I can not, in good conscious, vote for any other candidate. I don't mean this as a flame at all, but Dean is the only Democrat that I can get behind. In truth, I don't agree with all his positions, but he seems more "Green" than the other candidates.
I repeat: this is not a flame, just my opinion. My vote probably wouldn't matter anyway, considering I live in Georgia and in the last election no Democrat candidate even bothered with my state.
Disclaimer: Because tonight might be emotional for a lot of people, I am really careful as to trying not to offend anyone. :-)

27. Understand your discomfort. I'm a Dean person, too. BUT - |
|
I'm also realistic.
I remain a Dean supporter, but if he tanks, I am NOT willing to sit this one out and not vote, or THROW MY VOTE, AND AMERICA'S FUTURE AND WELL-BEING, BY VOTING GREEN. That is what got us into this piss-poor situation to begin with - enough people voting for Ralph Nader to mess things up so that bush was close enough to steal it.
Let's get real. WE MUST STICK TOGETHER, DEAN OR NO. I AM A DEAN PERSON FIRST, CLARK SECOND, and then, whomever (or whoever). I AM GOING TO SUPPORT, AND GIVE MONEY TO, AND WORK MY ASS OFF FOR, WHOEVER IT IS THAT THE DEMS CHOOSE. WHOEVER IT IS. OR WHOMEVER IT IS.
PRIORITY ONE, and I'm sorry to be yelling here, but PRIORITY ONE IS TO GET BUSH OUT-OUT-OUT!!!!!

28. I won't apologize for... |
|
voting my conscious. No, I will not sell-out my vote. If everyone who felt that they would be "throwing away their vote" if they voted for Green or another third party, then we might actually have a different choice than the current Democratic and Republican party.
Dean got my attention when he stated something to the effect of "I'm the Democrat in the Democratic Party." That "spoke to" a lot of us. The DNC and the other candidates need to stop alienating the "Democratic Wing" if they expect us to vote for them. If he is not on the ticket, I will not be giving my vote to the other candidates.

I was counting candidates on my fingers and just completely failed to put Kucinich in. It wasn't an intended sleight. I think Kucinich is, or should be, the soul of the Democratic Party. I didn't mean to leave him out of the poll, and my apologies for doing so.

With Edwards close behind. I'd have trouble supporting Kerry if he won, but I'd probably manage it.

I have no second choice at this point. It's:
1. Dean 2. The Nominee 3. The Green Party

Though his chances weren't looking too good for a while. I like his message more than I do some of his votes on the Bush agenda.

19. Another for Edwards, here. |
|
I wasn't sure until tonight if he could draw any support or was viable, but my brother (who's been politics-watching for the same twenty years I have) likes him pretty well, and it looks like he does have a little grip where the rubber meets the road, after all. I don't dislike him -- I just like Dean better, and will continue to hang on as long as he does. If the doctor doesn't perform well in the next five or six primaries and bows out, that's where I'll go. Not that I won't vote for anybody who makes it through the process ... but my level of enthusiasm will drop off if I have to dip below my number three.

24. The General, followed by Edwards |
|
Edwards is a *very* close third with me. I like the General's electability and progressive positions, but I *really* like politicians that don't have to resort to negative campaigns.

25. It's hard for me. I don't have a #2 .... |
|
because before I really got to know about Dean (about April last year) non of the other candidates inspired me because they let Bush get away with so much. It was the same old same old. Dean came along and said all that I was feeling and I agreed with his policies.
I could never vote Green because of 2000. As for now, I'm behind Dean all the way, but if he doesn't make it I'll just vote the nominee, even though I'll be holding my nose and cussing under my breath.

26. Undecided- although Clark supporters should know that |
|
their tone and relentless negativity has really turned me off to their candidate- and on the basis of what I've read here (which is the only experience I've had with the campaign at this point) it's not something I'd like to be involved with. That's not meant as sour grapes, just an honest observation that I suspect other Dean supporters share as well.
