Lawyers say Abu Ghraib guard Sabrina "thumbs up" Harman is a "scapegoat"
There is a part of me that agrees the Abu Ghraib atrocities were sanctioned "from above"...and there's another part of me that thinks that the "scapegoat" defense is a crock of horseshit.

So, obviously, I posted this because I am interested in what YOU think. I'm skeptical about that smile being COMPLETELY due to a "breakdown of leadership."

Let's also remember that "highest levels of the military bureaucracy and the Bush administration" includes Bush, the motherf**ker-in-chief, the "mandate man."

:Two military guards implicated in the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal in Iraq (news - web sites) were good soldiers caught in a muddled chain of command at a chaotic prison, their lawyers said at the start of pretrial hearings on December 4, 2004. Lawyers for Sgt. Javal Davis and Spec. Sabrina Harman said there was a breakdown of leadership and that their clients were scapegoats for the failures of a system that reached through the highest levels of the military bureaucracy and the Bush administration. Harman is seen posing over the body of a detainee at Abu Ghraib. (Charles Fredrick, ABC News/Reuters)"

1. Of course she and the others are.
Yes they definitely committed horrible acts and should be punished for them but clearly they are being scapegoated to protect the higher ups and to act as if these were isolated incidents committed by a few bad seeds.

2. Yep, everybody's a scapegoat
Nobody's to blame, and no one should be held responsible for anything that happens. I wonder if Ms. Harman would like to go to the neighborhood around Abu Ghraib with that picture on a placard around her neck and explain it to the locals? I'm sure they'd be very understanding.

3. Lynndie
I'm not gonna get into that. I think most of the blames lies with the individual soldiers. Just wanted to say that Lynndie England better take alot of pictures of her baby boy because she's probably not gonna be around for his first 8 - 10 years. Her trial or court martial starts Jan 17th.
