Rev. Jackson: "We cannot vent and then have Congress not act. If these reports are not investigated, we have all wasted our time. This cannot simply be an academic venting session. Take this struggle to the streets and legitimize it there, as they did in Selma."

Jackson demands a constutional right to vote. "If some can argue that the right to bear arms is explicit in the constitution, how can we tolerate our right to vote being described as 'implicit' in the constitution?"

1. As they did in Selma?
Yeah right.

In 1965 after Selma we got the Voting Rights Act passed because we had LBJ and a Democratic-run Congress.

3. Not to mention a huge groundswell of outrage from average Americans
sickened by the sight of hundreds of peaceful marchers getting the crap beaten out of them by police and state troopers.

Different time. Different circumstances. Different players.

2. combine the lack of voting machines with the leaked exit polls
and something really stinks. Late in the afternoon on election the word on the street was that Kerry was winning, that the exit polls were showing a clear defeat for Bush. How many people in Cuyahoga finally gave up waiting, and didn't stick it out because it was over? And how did these exit polls get leaked and then turn out to be so wrong? Who paid for them? Were they leaked to suppress the vote? When will the data be released?

Neas just blew the doors off. There were less voting machines in Cuyahoga County on election day than there were during the primary vote. Neas says Blackwell wins the Katherine Harris Award, and there should be prosecutions for the vote fraud.

5. Same happened in 2000 for the Florida panhandle timezone
The Networks call FL for Gore before the polls closed in the central TZ. That and this years leaked exit polls makes one wonder. I don't recall if the networks got in trouble for electioneering but I doubt it then and I doubt anything will become of this either.

6. that is the uncanny thing about 2004
I was telling a co-worker yesterday that in 2000 I went to bed late in the evening believing Gore was the winner and then awoke to the news that something had changed overnight. I never expected to have an identical experience in 2004. It is too strange.

In the evening it was apparent that Kerry would win, and when you combine the exit poll results with the on the ground reality of - a crappy economy, a net loss of jobs with more layoffs being announced daily, a war based on false information that is nothing less than a disaster, terrible approval ratings for the incumbant and not polling over 48% on average, spiraling gas/drug prices, poverty on the rise, an incumbant who got drubbed by his opponent in the national debates, not knowing anyone personally who voted for Gore who would be voting for * this time but knowing many who voted for * and who wouldn't do so again, record numbers of new voters, enormous protests at Repub Convention, huge crowds at the open Kerry rallies compared to the filtered crowds of loyalists at his opponents, soldiers dying every day in Iraq, a candidate who was AWOL and never experienced the reality of war vs. one who was in it, the intelligence failures prior to 911, etc. etc., it is hard to fathom.

I agree with you though that there will probably be nothing that will come from the exit poll leaking, but hopefully there will be fundamental changes to the voting system in this country and democracy will be protected.

4. Remeber what Sharpton Said at The DNC?
about our (African Americans) right to vote being soaked in the blod of 4 little girls from Birmingham? This is the most memorable phrase to me from the Convention, and I think about it often:

".....right to vote is soaked in blood..."

Did these people die in vain? Makes me wonder if we will have to go this tragic route again. God, I hope not.

We are having to fight another civil rights struggle. God save America.
