Conyers needs emails now! SEND TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!
Got this from Mark Crispian Miller:

John Conyers is trying to collect a couple million emails on the voting investigation..

He has set up a special form for you to ask questions of the committee..

Please send off an email with a question for the Democratic members of the Judiciary Committee Hearing on the Ohio Vote.

Click below and take a moment to write your opinions of the 2004 Presidential vote.

Here's my letter, if anyone's interested:

Thank you so much for conducting the Judiciary Committee forum today to investigate voting irregularities in the Ohio 2004 Presidential election. I was able to watch it in full courtesy of C-SPAN online.

Three things troubled me most. First is that not one Republican Congressperson attended the Forum. The second is that main stream media seemed to boycott covering the event. Finally, the privatization of elections relying exclusively on voting machines and polling from politically biases sources.

These three problems speak volumes about the struggle that is ahead in reforming U.S. elections. It is a Catch-22 that Democrats may never be able to break out of: We need republican support to reform elections because they're the majority BUT the Republicans are chummy with the voting machine makers BUT the public does not cry foul because the media does not cover the issue.

All citizens deserve the right to vote without intimidation, regardless of race or economic status, and to have their vote not only counted but accountable. Thank you again for helping citizens' voices to be heard. I for one pledge to work with you in this continuing struggle for voting rights and equity.

6. Just wrote, thanks!
First, I would like to applaud Rep. Conyers for his dedication to the integrity of our democracy. He and the Judiciary Committee are exemplary members of our representative, and can always count on the support of people like myself, and those citizens of like mind, committed to the legitimacy of our democratic process.

However, with regard to electronic voting, as was alluded to in the hearing on 8 Dec., I would like to submit to the committee the possibility of looking into prosecution of companies like Diebold, Sequoia and ES&S on the basis of fraud speculation, and in the interest of securing subpoenas for the crucial technological information, source code, and encryption of those machines in question.

These companies willfully distributed machines that were flawed, and should face penalties for doing as such. Above and beyond all that, voting by electronic means should be completely abolished before the crucial 2006 elections, where further decimation of this country's delicate 'checks and balances' system is deemed inevitable. Complete and total rule of this government by a one party system, though an extreme concept at this moment in time, is an eventuality if these certain steps are not taken now.

With regard to this Committee, and more specifically, this website, I think it crucial that the will and voice of the American people be heard. The communication facilities brought about by the Internet have opened up windows of opportunity, the likes of which have never before been applicable to a government run for, by, and of the people. I would like to submit to the committee they establish a website where comments like these, and of my fellow citizens, are screened and posted based on relevance. It is important for us to realise that crucial progress is being made on these matters, and that our concerns and ideas are, in fact, being recorded.

Every American stands to be affected by the outcome of this committee's findings. Again I stress this importance, and thank every one of you involved in the process for recognising your own valuable part in once again making America the democratic republic she once strived to be. My best wishes, and God bless.

They probably won't do anything, but at least they won't be able to claim ignorance.

And if they get enough letters, they might hesitate a bit in their toadying.

10. My letter to Conyers
Thank you for investigating the abuses of voters in Ohio in the 2004 election. I teach college in California, and a good three fourths of my students voted this year. I know because most showed me their stubs for extra credit, and the vast majority of those voted for John Kerry because of concerns about a draft under Bush and dwindling financial aid and access to higher education. In the past, about a third or fourth of my students would vote. I can't believe that the record new registration of young people didn't affect the outcome of this election.

In addition, we cannot as a people tolerate the disenfranchisement of black voters if we want other nations to take us seriously when we tell them to be more democratic.

If there is one single thing you can do to fix vote fraud, it would be getting rid of PRIVATE CONTRACTORS, in both the manufacturing of the machines and counting of the votes. As we have seen in the S & L, Enron crisis, and countless other financial scandals, corporations are not bound by ethics or morals if they see a way to make a buck, and it would be foolish and dangerous to believe they wouldn't use access to our vote to install a candidate who favors low taxes on corporations, lax regulations, privatization of government functions, and even invading a country that poses no threat to us to reward the candidate's, George W. Bush's, cronies.

12. Done
I also sent a separate e-mail to every Republican on the House Judiciary Committee...a love letter of sorts, except lovin' wasn't on my mind.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that Feeney (R-FL -- of Madsen investigation fame) is on the Committee?!?

What an unholy crew these Republicans are.
