Why Hillary Should Never Be President
I'll qualify this statement somewhat. I like Hillary and if nominated, I would support her enthusiastically b/c I want a Democrat to win and I think she'd make a decent President.

But I have major reservations about a Hillary Clinton run. There's the one about her being unlikely to win. More damaging, however, is the fact that a Hillary Clinton win would put the United States in a position where two families would have controlled the Presidency for a total of between 24 and 28 years (1989-2013 or 1989-2017).

That's not healthy for democracy. And it's bad for both parties. We can't become bound to one family as a party (and I think being beholden to the Bush family is going to bite the Republicans in the ass too).

I'm personally hoping that in 2009 I will be able to make reference to a President Edwards or President Warner or President Kerry or President Dean or Clark or Rendell or... whoever - but a President who's title isn't followed by the names "Clinton" or "Bush".

1. I'll agree to that.
That and the fact that she will raise more money for the Republicans than she will for the Democrats.

2. Fear not....It's never going to happen......
after another NE lose it will a long time before we have another from other than the south. The country is still not ready for a woman and Hillary is just too polarizing character to ever get elected. IMHO

3. Hillary voted in favor of the foul omnibus spending bill.
On the other hand, my Senator Hagel (hated Hagel of ES&S fame) voted against it.

I would rather vote for Hagel than Hillary.

5. Who cares about families being in office?
As if it even matters who the candidate is, it's the party they're from that matters.

9. So right, but just now I need some diversion.
I wept after the hearings today. Speakers were eloquent. Issues were heart-rending, and I had an overwhelming feeling of hopelessness and powerlessness.

So just now I want to talk about how we should not vote for Hillary in 2008. (Like it matters who I vote for anyway)

8. that's idealistic
And yes, pragmatic too.

I agree with you. Plus she would probably lose, even in a fair election.

11. I will NEVER support "hillary"
or any democrat that voted for the 385 billion dollar budget, that reduced pell grants, diminished a woman's right to choose, and allowed excessive pork

Not only did she vote for it, but so did shummmer, feinstein, and a wealth of other democrats including daschelle

for your information, kerry, edwards, and mccain voted against it

13. I agree people are so shallow this "name recognition" voting is messing up
our Democracy. I think there should be some sort of nepotisim law enacted. I remember they interviewed some old peckerwood in South Carolina during the 2000 primaries. When they asked him what he liked about Bush he said: " I don't know that much about him, but I'm voting for him cause I really liked his daddy"

19. I remember one of those articles
and early on in the primaries where one person was interviewed about the primaries...

Then the reporter said something about Bush Sr and the person asked "It's the son? I thought it's the dad running again".

17. Hillary was presented with 2004 award for promoting democracy
"The 2004 Intrepid Freedom Award is presented to a National or International leader who has distinguished him or herself in promoting and defending the values of freedom and democracy, the core beliefs of our nation." http://clinton.senate.gov/

She can help democracy right now by supporting the investigation into the 2004 Election.

18. good point. I think we should clean house, get some new blood in there.
Too much power is concentrated in too few bloodlines, it should make anyone nervous.

20. Good points
Dynasties are never good for democracy....

Either way, I hope she's not eleccted. I'm not impressed with her record or performance in the senate...and I have not even the slightest confidence that she could win.
