To make your mark on the RW these days, you have to be pretty far out there.

This guy, Sam Francis, is actually distributed by a major syndicate. David Brock at Media Matters has launched a campaign to get this racist column about the Great Monday Night Football Sex Scandal spiked:

Here's why:

Like the Jackson-Timberlake performance, the Owens-Sheridan ad was interracial and brazenly so—if only morals and taste had been the targets, the producers could easily have found white actresses who are less obviously Nordic than the golden-locked Miss Sheridan, but Nordic is what the ad's producers no doubt wanted.

For that matter, if you only wanted to take a swipe at morals and taste, you could find a black woman to rip her towel off or replace Mr. Owens with a famous white athlete (there are still a few).

But that wasn't the point, was it? The point was not just to hurl a pie in the face of morals and good taste but also of white racial and cultural identity. The message of the ad was that white women are eager to have sex with black men, that they should be eager, and that black men should take them up on it.

But the ad's message also was that interracial sex is normal and legitimate, a fairly radical concept for both the dominant media as well as its audience.

...the only thing that bugged me about it was the cross-marketing of MNF and "Desperate Housewives". (I'm just burned out on all kinds of marketing). 23. A lot depends on where you live.

I'm 61, and I remember a lot of the attitudes from back in the 50's & 60's. I lived in Pgh, Pa then, and although there was racism, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as it was in the south. There was very little interracial dating or marriage, and the children from the few marriages suffered a lot of harrassment. Over the years, that seems to be over in the north, but not so in parts of the south.

I live in Ga. now, and lived in SC for 6 years. I think it's going to take several more decades for the racial problems to go away around here. Most of it is hidden now, but these folks won't even let go of the Confederate flag! I can only hope that when the older generation dies, the younger people won't have these feelings.

90. In my brief review of Francis's articles, I see two major themes:

complaints that Bush isn't conservative enough, and a number of articles about immigration, purity of race and the shameful (and daannnngerrouuussss danger Will Robinson) trends towards blurring race/culture divides. He lashes at minority races and their failure to appreciate the true ethics of hard work and equality for all that "Anglos" brought to the New World as their very own personal cultural heritage.

To get a better idea of Francis's ideology, I did a very little investigation, and found Mr Francis devoting one whole article to praising Samuel Huntington's "The Challenges to America's National Identity". Here is a snip from Amazon.com's ed. review of that book:

Whites are smarter than Blacks, not because they choose to be it's in their gene pool. This argument is not based on racism it's based on genetics according to Hernstein and Murray. If we take this so called objective argument a step further we will eventually stumble along a rather simple but obvious conclusion. According to Hernstein and Murray, whites are smarter than blacks and high intelligence (or IQ) has a strong correlation with success, and low intelligence has a strong correlation with crime, poverty, illegitimacy, and welfare dependency. Therefore the intelligent, most objective stance for the government to take in this country would be to eliminate social action policies like affirmative-action, welfare, head-start, etc. This in a nut shell is the basic premise of the late Richard J. Hernstein and Charles Murray, authors of the controversial book THE BELL CURVE.

So there you have it, a small sample giving an idea of Mr Francis's sympathies. I glanced at several of Francis's articles and I can say that intellectual-sounding polemics about whites needing to protect themselves against the threat of immigration (specifically brown races) infects his entire *snort* "ouvre".

But, because of "liberal media", he doesn't.

Recently, especially after reading Thomas Franks terrific book What's the Matter With Kansas?, I have started becoming aware of the most underlying reasons for why we lose.

And, this article is a great example.

If the media were truly liberal, this guy would be all over the place.

All I see on the news is conservative commentators chosing fringe issues pushed by a very small group of people on the left, and then using it to paint the entire progressive/liberal mindset with a very broad brush. Some things aren't even true. (Liberals want to ban the Bible. Liberals want to do away with Christmas. Liberals want to make it illegal to eat meat. etc...)

Imagine hearing even a small fraction of fringe right-wing positions discussed in the media, and having them painted as "conservative" positions, as views espoused by the entire Republican Party.

Read "Brown: The Last Discovery of America" by Richard Rodriguez. I grew up in Sacramento, just like he did, and I can tell you that love knows no color, racial or social boundary whatsoever. I have fallen for white, black, yellow, brown, pale gold and tawny bronze women; I have sent love letters to a Japanese "princess", went mad for a lovely lass in high school le coleur de nuit, and am currently enthralled by the presence of a young Algerian lioness whose colors are beyond my powers of description...
