Bush "doing everything we possibly can to protect your loved ones"
WASHINGTON - Saying U.S. soldiers in Iraq "deserve the best," President Bush on Thursday emphasized that the administration is addressing equipment concerns like the one about armored vehicles raised by a soldier who questioned Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

"The concerns expressed are being addressed, and that is we expect our troops to have the best possible equipment," the president said in response to a reporter's question at the White House.

"If I were a soldier overseas wanting to defend my country, I'd want to ask the secretary of defense the same question, and that is, 'Are we getting the best we can get us?'"

American soldiers "deserve the best," the president said, adding that "I've told many family I've met with, 'We're doing everything we possibly can to protect your loved ones.'"

4. Doing "everything" includes lying about why they have to be at war
evidently.

2. Evidently since he snuck out of the military, he didn't feel like asking
Rumsfeld at any time, "Are we getting the best we can get us?"

But if he was a soldier, he woulda asked. That's our Georgie...not nearly as brave as a soldier!

5. Army Times: Nothing but lip service

This editorial is over a year old, but still says it best.

Nothing but lip service

In recent months, President Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress have missed no opportunity to heap richly deserved praise on the military. But talk is cheap — and getting cheaper by the day, judging from the nickel-and-dime treatment the troops are getting lately.

For example, the White House griped that various pay-and-benefits incentives added to the 2004 defense budget by Congress are wasteful and unnecessary — including a modest proposal to double the $6,000 gratuity paid to families of troops who die on active duty. This comes at a time when Americans continue to die in Iraq at a rate of about one a day.

It's continually amazing how Bushco are masters of the "are you going to believe me or your own eyes" game in that even people who are suffering terribly because of Bushco policy support him 100 percent in the infliction of the suffering on them! (Referencing an interview with the ex-wife of one of the troops who asked Rumsfeld the question about armor, and she says they both support Bush "100%").
