I finally got through!
I have been battling back and forth w/ a friend of the family and my parents about the actual number of US deaths in Iraq. They sent me this http://www.veteransforpeace.org/US_War_Dead_111403.htm and told me to check out my sources. So I sent them back the following... Guess what? They decided to finally start paying attention! They are researching for themselves for the first time since 911! I think Rummy's little speech to the troops yesterday finally pissed them off! Yeah!

“There have been 346 total USMC casualties since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. November has became one of Iraq's bloodiest months as the U.S. death toll in the war in Iraq reached 1,206 with new Defense Department identifications Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to an Associated Press tally.”

‘BERLIN - About 21,000 American soldiers, most of them from units sent to Iraq, have been treated at the biggest U.S. military hospital outside the United States since the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, the hospital said Monday.”

ABC news won’t give totals they want you to try and count for yourself, however they don’t seem to be reporting very accurately.

http://edition.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties/

“There have been 1,428 coalition deaths, 1,282 Americans, 74 Britons, seven Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 19 Italians, one Latvian, 13 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and nine Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of December 8, 2004. (Graphical breakdown of casualties). The list below is the names of the soldiers, Marines, airmen, sailors and Coast Guardsmen whose families have been notified of their deaths by each country's government. At least 9,765 U.S. troops have been wounded in action, according to the Pentagon. The Pentagon does not report the number of non-hostile wounded. This list is updated regularly. For a historical look at U.S. war casualties, click here, and to view a list of casualties in the war in Afghanistan, click here”.http://www.myantiwar.org/view/17158.html"Since the end of the Vietnam War, presidents have worried that their military actions would lose support once the public glimpsed the remains of U.S. soldiers arriving at air bases in flag-draped caskets. To this problem, the Bush administration has found a simple solution: It has ended the public dissemination of such images by banning news coverage and photography of dead soldiers' homecomings on all military bases. In March, on the eve of the Iraq war, a directive arrived from the Pentagon at U.S. military bases. "There will be no arrival ceremonies for, or media coverage of, deceased military personnel returning to or departing from Ramstein airbase or Dover base, to include interim stops," the Defense Department said, referring to the major ports for the returning remains."

1. I wish people would start giving a shit about the Iraqis, too.
100,000 dead civilians, including 40,000 children. There is no excuse for that. This war shouldn't be happening.

3. They're Pro-Life, right?
Their votes and taxes paid for 40,000 dead children. More to come with Depleted Uranium and so on. Not that they care, though.

6. Actually...
They are pro-life only in the same sense we are. My mom worked in a medical lab before Roe vs. Wade. She saw the horror of what women and babies went through before abortion was legal. It changed her veiw of legalized abortion, so she is pro-choice.

4. I have all those numbers too!
My family and this particular Friend are all Friends w/ several Kurdish freedom fighters that came here as refugee's. I'm not forgetting the Iraqi's, I promise you! But, understand the Iraqi's I know were mostly for the US taking down Saddam! I think they were far more aware of the dangers of going into Iraq than most American's though, they pretty much predicted what is happening, but they don't support the terrorists either.

12. 100% with you, Ladyhawk.
It's an astounding and disgusting number, and not many people seem to even consider the Iraqi casualties as part of this war.

2. Here's some more links for ya
For a good count of coalition forces broken down by country try:
http://icasualties.org/oif/

For the everbuilding cots of the war in dollars and a converter that tells you what we could have bought with that money see:
http://costofwar.com/

Hope these help. I find it very powerful material for making the antiwar argument

7. Cost of War in particular blew me away...
Their converter takes incomprehensible mountains of dollars and makes them into things I can relate to like how many full time teachers you could put into out schools for $149 billion (2,586,901 and rising). It was a real eye opener for me (and they were wide open before seeing the info).

8. You got it!
It was the four year college scholarships that blew me away! I just started paying for one college education and have another one to pay for in about 3 yrs! I could sure use some of that money we are throwing away!

9. Well look at it tis way,
if they got too much education before college they'd probably get into a better school. Then you'd be paying even more. Maybe sending our potential education funds to burn in Iraq works for you in the long run.

14. I'm not sure...
Maybe because until Rumsfeld made a mockery of our soldiers, they didn't think it was important enough. This was a real breakthrough for me. Now maybe you understand my excitement! I have now enlisted at least 3 more people to search for the truth, rather than sit on the couch and watch reality t.v.!
