ho is held responsible for lack of armor? PBS news hour

Who is held responsible for lack of armor?
There is no accountability in Washington.

A troop just returning from Irag was just on Jim Lehrer News hour tonight saying that Rumsfied and the troops have two versions of what is going on on the ground in Iraq. Says that the troops have repeatedly asked for more armor and other equipment and no one is listening--or equipment is not getting to the troops, esp. the armored vehicles. He said Rummys answer was 'dismissive'---
When you rush to war like we did, he said--with a lack of planning, then things like this happen. He also said that it will take questions such as the one asked by the soldier yesterday that embarrass them to get things done!!

He went on and on. Very articulate.

6. The retired general has been there 7 times as a civilian.
And the host never asked him why. War profiteering?

8. I thought exactly the same thing.
And the vet pretty much said the same thing when he said there's a big difference between a soldier being sent there and a "civilian contractor" being in the region.

9. Riding around Baghdad looking like the Beverly Hillbillies
PAUL RIECKHOFF:

We've got the most powerful, well equipped military in the world and there's really no reason we should be riding around Baghdad looking like the Beverly Hillbillies; it's inexcusable.

Unit Awaits OK To Use Steel Armor

Fearing roadside bombs and sniper bullets, members of the Army Reserves' 428th Transportation Co. turned to a local steel fabricator to fashion extra armor for their 5-ton trucks and Humvees before beginning their journey to Iraq earlier this month.

But their armor might not make it into the war, because the soldiers didn't get Pentagon approval for their homemade protection.

This is all OLD NEWS; SO WHY are our troops STILL SHORT, TWO YEARS LATER???
