It’s time for Donald Rumsfeld to go.
Amid the lives lost, both military and civilian, in the occupation of Iraq, political accountability has taken a back seat to political survival.
The recent comments from troops bound for the front, though, ought to be the straw that breaks the back of Donald Rumsfeld’s failed tenure as Secretary of Defense.
National Guardsmen say they’re scrounging for material to “armor-up” equipment before deployment. Apparently, they are rummaging for metal and bulletproof glass in landfills. On site, they are retrofitting armor while the Secretary says, “You go to war with the Army you’ve got”
Rumsfeld seems too involved and distracted with the Bush Administration’s internal battles between Defense and State to effectively provide the civilian leadership of the military our government requires. He ought to step down, or be replaced.
(on edit)
We may have lost the big one, but I feel we need to chip at this Administration's edges as well as we can. They are the real power brokers.

1. Bush kept Rummy to take the bullets |

he knew was coming for the way this war has been executed. Bush never did accountability for one's decisions and actions. Nor did he ever do defending his country.
