Edwards rebid for White House |
|
There is a strong possibility that Sen. Edwards will run again for the White House. On Larry King last night and other information I'm hearing in North Carolina he will not go back to his law practice. An alignment with other leaders within the party will give him a better opportunity for the nomination. Where he goes from here is a question.

but I can't stand Edwards. Loathe him. And, yes, Edwards likely would have lost his seat had he defended it. He wasn't able to give much help to Erskine Bowles in holding on to it, either, and it doesn't appear he did much for Kerry either.
Let him go back to the law.

As far as I know, Erskine Bowles was hurt by the time he spent in the Clinton Administration. I read an article that mentioned Clinton's support of NAFTA and Bowles' work on that as something that Burr used to really make it clear why he was the better candidate since free trade cost North Carolina so many jobs. In addition, if Edwards was so incredibly disliked in North Carolina, why in the world would anyone believe that he could be any help in getting another Democrat elected to the same seat? That logic just doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, Edwards has made it clear that he is not going back to the law (apparently unless it is as a teacher).

Bowles was hurt the most because Burr was a vicious and unprinipled sleazebag who played to peoples ignorance and biases. Bowles hurt himself by not fighting back in kind.
As to the second point, look at it this way; if Edwards were poplular in NC, he should have been able to exert a lot of positive influence in getting Bowles elected. I never claimed Edwards was popular in NC; the earlier poster did. I claimed he was unpopular.
One term as Senator and a failed bid as VP just doesn't seem a very promising basis to found a future presidential campaign on. Who knows. I'm not especially enthused about any choice we might have in 2008.

11. He said on Larry King that he and his wife want to commit lives to public |
|
policy issues.
So, he's not going back to practice law for that reason.
Obviously, that leaves open the possibility that he will run for president. However, I think the only thing that you can definitely conclude is that for the rest of their lives, the Edwards family will be trying to make a difference in people's lives in relation to poverty, jobs, health care and national security (which were the things Edwards mentioned in response to King's question) -- whether that will be done from a class room or a the oval office is the thing nobody knows.

15. Even if he does make a run, |

how is he going to be heard in the next four years? A candidate needs a platoform to make a name for himself, and with Edwards out of the Senate where is he going make an impact?

I am neutral on Edwards. It sure doesn't look like he made much of a dent in North Carolina or any other southern state in 2004.

The Kerry campaign made little to no effort in the South. I think the most bone-headed mistake of the Kerry campaign and the DNC was to put a southerner on the ticket and then not make a serious effort in the South. It probably cost us a couple US Senate seats as well. Still, I don't think Edwards can be blamed for that since it wasn't his decision to make as far as I know.
