Repugs did well in the South...because we sold Our Land to Developers.

Those Tobacco and Vegetable Growing "Truck Farmers" got caught in the "Global Economy." They started selling their LAND to the Developers under Clinton when NAFTA was signed. Under Bush and Reagan they already saw the "writing on the wall."

The tobacco farmers saw the litigation against them, mobilized to get "buyout's, sell-outs..and whatever they could get from the Anti-Smoking Crowd to pay for their demise. They were clever...and whatever they didn't get for NOT farming tobacco in some areas they sold to "developers" who put golf courses or "Mini-Mansions on their land at a nice price to compensate them.

The "Coastal Southern" veggie growers were very lucky. Many of them had farmland close to Hilton Head, and the Golden Isles of SC and GA and Kiawah Island, Wild Dunes and the other "Resort/Golf/Potential areas of SC and NC. The Reagan relaxation of Real Estate restrictions in Fed and Local level allowed "Development" of all these areas and it did help ANYONE WITH LAND....

Folks in the South in the Coastal Areas and Inland have made Millions out of "selling off the farmland" to the builders of Luxury Homes...Gated Community Golf Fantasy Retirement Commmunities, and "Second Home Investment Crowd." State Governments have been enjoying the extra income from "dual state residency." So have the "insurance companies who get Premium from shore property.

They love Bush, Reagan...all Repugs for helping the SOUTH TO RISE AGAIN. The "LAND" was always the best asset the South had...anyone who has read Mitchell's "Gone With the Wind" or is a reader of Southern Literature knows ....it was ALWAYS THE LAND....

The Repugs can prop up that it's ALL ABOUT JESUS, VALUES, MORALITY...but in the end...they made their money OFF THE LAND...and Reagan and Poppy and Clinton and CHIMPY...were all very kind to them due to "Deregulation of Real Estate, SEC RULES."

In the end..it's NOT about Religion...it's about making money off something that someone wants to buy and use.

Just because someone buys a home (The new voter) in the south does not make them a Repug. You could make the argument that it's an economic issue, with wealthier individuals tending to vote Republican, but you most definitely cannot make that hogwash "South must rise again" argument. Yes there are some people in the south obsessed about the South vs. North issue, but the main problem Democrats have faced in the south are threefold: Gun Control, Big Government Backlash, and the fact that the Democratic Party reigned supreme there for 50 years (Nothing lasts forever). Clinton won Arkansas, Lousiana, and Florida both times he ran. He did well in Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Of course, he was a Southerner and we haven't elected a non-southern Democrat in this country since FDR.

Anyways, we didn't get beat up in the south nearly as bad as middle-America. States like Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, etc.
