This is the kind of redneck, Florida Democrat that I LOVE!!
Gulf County, Florida: No tv station, no radio station, no newspaper, except the "Myrtle Watkins has an abcessed tooth. The Baptist Church Community Christmas pageant... Baby Lanier is 1-yr-old today...6-yr-old kills first buck..." mullet-wrapper (the fish not the hairdo). My Dem friend called me and she had run into an elderly couple who have lived their entire lives in the fish camps of Howard's Creek. Friend said "Bush has cut everything out that helps poor people." The couple started raving about how he has ruined the economy, has made everyone in the world hate us. The woman said "I ain't got nothing against the churches, but who cares about gay marriage and abortion? Them thangs aren't bothering a soul! And have you noticed, when he talks, it seems like he aint got no sense?" The man said "We have no business in Iraq, and he has no business being president." They have no internet. How do these people who have every right to be ignorant get the truth? Must be C-Span. This does give me a little hope.

1. It may not be that they're getting the truth ...
it may be that they're NOT getting the lies and propaganda (especially if they don't have cable). Rednecks or not, these people are thinking for themselves and using good, old fashioned common sense. Good for them! :toast:

4. Bingo! They (lucky souls!) are propaganda-deprived!
Common sense and thinking for oneself are rapidly becoming lost skills, pounded into dust by the daily exposure to the mind-numbing pap that is modern infotainment.

10. BINGO!
Since I stopped watching or listening to mainstream media news, I feel FAR more clear-headed and sure of what *I* think. My brain isn't cluttered by their bullshit nonstop yapping yapping yapping.

5. I see this all the time
People who use their eyes and ears and brains independent of the Republican propaganda machine inevitably come to the conclusion that Bush is an idiot who is a disaster for our country.

There's only so much bullshit and nonsense that people can be accepted to put up with, before they figure out they're being snookered.

Race, class, income level, education level, geographic region, etc, are just factors, that do not necessarily add up to "Bush is God." Some of us are just naturally less susceptible to brainwashing and authoritarianism.

6. There are good people and most likely my cousins
Keep them in mind when you hear mealy mouthed whacks bad mouthing hunting heritage and the other values people like these enjoy. The shrinking of the tent over the years has all but forgotten this breed and it's refreshing to hear of them hanging on. Remember the roots and the tree of democracy will grow.
