Take Action: Tell Congress to Oppose Bush's Social Security Privatization

Text of letter:

Dear Representative/Senator:

As a constituent, I am writing to express my concerns about President
Bush's plans to transform the Social Security system.  The program, as it
stands, provides tens of millions of Americans with a reliable retirement
income, as well as disability insurance and life insurance during their
working years.

Proponents of privatization have advanced the argument that Social
Security is on the brink of collapse.  But the fact is that, as the
nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates, without a single policy
change, the Social Security system can pay full benefits through 2052.  It
seems clear that the funding "crisis" is a political ploy, and I urge you
to look beyond the Administration’s rhetoric and examine the facts.

Even partial privatization would be devastating for those who depend on
Social Security.  In all likelihood, it would lead to higher
administrative costs, added risk, and most importantly, cuts in
benefits.

The current program is effective, efficient, and successful in preventing
fraud and abuse, while the privatization plan would do little more than
shuffle funds from retirees to the financial industry.

I urge you to oppose the President's plans regarding Social Security.
Thank you for your time and consideration, as well as your continued
public service.

Sincerely,

7. The new Bushco Spinerooni. Social Security is a partisan issue,
a Democratic sacred cow. Republicans are for less government and for you having more control over your money. Saw it on CNN Money. Must be true.

5. Done
I am amazed that people are going to buy this crap. Bush says he does will not cut benefits or raise taxes to pay the two trillion dollars this will cost. Nobody is going to ask where the money is going to come from.

6. Thanks!
And Lindsey Graham's bill seeks to raise the ceiling on today's workers to pay for this privatization which would deny our children the guaranteed benefits we will receive. We will actually be asked to finance the destruction of Social Security!
