Why no massive demonstrations(like Vietnam) in USA against Iraq War?

1. There have been major demonstrations

500,000 were in DC before the war started. We don't see the large protests now because the energy of the anti-war movement was taken up in the Presidential election.

I think we're doing better than we did in Vietnam because we started protesting before the war began. It took years of violence in Vietnam before there were any major protests. Take that hippies! ;)

Maybe now that the election is over people will start protesting again.

years for the demonstrations to start and build. And there were massive demonstrations before the war started. Remember, Bush called them focus groups?

In many parts of the country demonstrations have continued on a weekly or monthly basis, but they've been ignored.

It will happen again. Just give it time.

You know there is not only the war to protest, but the rape of the environment, the theft by the Bushies etc, etc. I am amazed people aren't running around in a tizzy protesting. The only thing I can put my finger on is that most people don't know/care because they get their news from the usual suspects.

i'm 26 years old and know people who are around my age and younger where they would be most likely to be drafted if it started up again.

but most don't care about what is going on. the concern is on things like the latest movie out, some tv shows, music etc. war to them is not really a concern. they aren't war mongers eithers. it's more like they just don't care or have no opinion on it as it has nothing to do with their lives.

Many who would LOVE to take to the streets with pitchforks and torches are living paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford to miss one day of work. There aren't any organized protests anywhere near me, either. We need to have protests 24-7!!!! If, for instance there was a 24-7 protest at our county courthouse (local for me) I'd be there staffing signs in the middle of the night or after work or something but for now there's nothing near enough and I can't miss work.

That's my predicament.

There were huge demonstrations before the war started, plus a huge one at the RNC. The movement suffered a temporary setback because everyone decided to waste time and energy on John @#$%ing Kerry.

11. The Viet Nam war demonstrations were covered by the media

This war has many huge demonstrations,the media shows up and rolls tape but the owners say go with something else.
That is the difference now ,the media is now owned by war mongers,when they started this crap mantra about about the " Liberal Media " in the 60s they knew what it would do.
Neo fucking cons make some good long range secret plans,it's thier real basic plan that has no future.They are great at turning people against each other like all narrow visioned fascists.We have a plan for the world to have a future.Our plan is not carried out well enough yet because we don't get paid to march or have what they call think tanks and untaxed churchs doing the work.
The saddest part of this whole mess is that our tax dollars paid for thier little spy games and brain washing of the over entertained masses.

Frankly, I think people are too scared or lazy to do anything about it. The ones that want to protest are usually "professional protestors" that think others aren't as "pure" as they are.

It doesn't matter, really. Yet. Wait until the draft and more soldiers dying. Even then, the media will paint those that dissent as nutjobs and rapscallions.

It should be interesting to see what happens on January 20th, 2005 though.

massive demonstrations, and far larger than the VietNam ones, they have been completely ignored by the corporate media.
