Republicans are not allowed to change their minds - poor things
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 03:33 AM by Cronus Protagonist
It must be frustrating to always have to stick to one's reputed beliefs even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

A few of the main problems of adhering to this philosophy must be

1) that often times you must have to lie to yourself and the world

2) it takes a lot of energy and hard work to come up with obscure interpretations that fly in the face of real evidence

3) it must feel like the world is crushing in on you because it keeps denying your belief structure simply because the world is real and your beliefs are not.

Knowing this, I understand why some of them feel the need to lash out at the rest of us who are free of these problems - it must be almost unbearable to be so stuck, and at the same time be confronted with free people doing whatever they please.

Sucks to be one, I bet.

1. actually they are allowed to change them
but only when their masters tell them too. Didn't the daily show do a mock debate between * circa 2000 and * circa 2004 to show (and mock) how different their posistions are?

7. Gee do you recall the GOP saying Dem could not think?
I can recall when people used to be worried we were moving to wards a totalitarianism form of gov. with the Dem and here we are with the GOP. Who ever would have thought it would happen? They will end up planning our every move just what they said the Dem were planning to do.And all right from the top just what they said they hated. I can hardly believe this has happened.

2. ignorant & feeling fine
"...it must be almost unbearable..." Most of the poor fools seem pretty content. I'm actually a little jealous of the happy ignoramuses.

4. Still, isn't it a little pathetic
Given the potentiality of the human organism that is wasted in these cases?

5. Its called hypocrisy, isn't it?
The fear of being true. Silly and self-defeating philosophy isn't it.

If you want to make a hypocrit happy, agree with them.
If you want to make a hypocrit truly happy, disagree with them.

6. If you want to make them die with pride
Tell them you changed your mind based on their arguments.

But that would be cruel.

9. Agree for the most part, but there are a few of us
Not all Republicans are closed minded and 'stuck', and many more of us dislike Bush (many lifelong Republicans, myself included, did not vote for him). Only a few of us (myself, ModRepubInPa) are here on DU now, but I'd expect many more to come over the next few years. You probably have only seen the hardcore right ones, but those of us from the moderate wing are much more reasonable people.

12. Hello. I've always thought that if you go far enough right you wind up on
the left! and visa versa. Nice to see you here. I know lots of “real” conservatives are as pissed off at Bush as any liberal, but they seem to have an aversion to voting Democratic that seems… well, excessive.

Today I came across Edgar J. Steele over at thepeoplesvoice.org, He said that the position he advocated this election was to not vote. Now, even though I understand where he’s coming from, it strikes me as incredibly self-defeating. In the link below he lays out a very good case that the GOP has been stealing elections, but finds himself unable to vote Democratic. He writes:

“It's a good thing that Kerry won't be in the Oval Office; but, another four years like we just had?

If I really believed this election showed the true color of conservatism, I would join the liberals in a heartbeat and replace my "Nuke the Whales" bumper sticker with one that says "Save the Baby Seals."

If this is what it means to be conservative today, I want to be liberal.”

Well, this IS what the GOP means today. “Real” conservatives have had their party hijacked. It does amaze me though, that many are so rigidly anti-liberal that they are incapable of saying, “Hey, I’m going to vote for Kerry because this mess has to be cleaned up. I think it’s a long shot that Kerry can do that, but I know there’s no chance if the neocons continue to rule.”
