2. Let Liberty House handle it.
I imagine they are watching it.

The thing that can happen, though, is if the high bidder ends up being a freeper and wins, he can have fraud charges levied against him if he doesn't pay up. Joke's on him.

:-)

6. don`t worry- e-bay
will be on this it`s very bad for business. that dumb shit thinks it`s fun to bid but if they make him pay thru legal action it won`t be funny. they will probably start contacting bidders and pull the item back to a legit bid.

14. Unfortunately, probably not. I do a lot on ebay and they don't pursue
stuff like this beyond allowing negative feedback after the auction. No doubt there are a lot of BS bids on this (one bidder has a -negative- feedback score), but ebay has no policy to engage in any sort of prosecution of fraud. They state that bids are 'legal contracts', but it's strictly up to the participants to pursue it.

The worst thing that will happen to a "NPB" (non paying bidder) is cancellation of their account, after which they can just open up another with a different email address.

19. They do on high money, high profile auctions
because it hurts their reputation. Nickle and dimers like me they ignore...... but look how vast eBay is.

9. Messing with the auction
would be a really low thing to do considering the money from the sweater goes to build a homeless veterans shelter.

11. Yes, but that goes to the issue of integrity, a concept foreign to freeper
types.

12. Well, I hope he likes his $14K sweater
Does he like argyle?

It is going to a great cause. $14K is more than the Bush Administration has ever given to veterans.

16. Bid Retraction History
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 12:05 AM by lolly
Two would-be disrupters (one w/the username "George W Bush" apparently got cold feet and retracted their bids.

There is a notation that all bids over 14,000 must be accompanied by a validated credit card--that should stop most of them.

How weird, that these people who supposedly revere the military and accuse all war protesters of not supporting the troops would work so hard to insult and denigrate an ACTUAL war hero--because he exercised his constitutional right to challenge a deserter for the presidency.

17. This was the last one that looked genuine
Current bid: US $12,300.45

Time left: 5 days 6 hours
7-day listing
Ends Jan-24-04 20:32:57 PST
Add to Calendar
History: 107 bids (US $50.00 starting bid)
High bidder: rnizlek( 163)

Location: Manchester, NH
United States

Still pretty high, but then it started to go wonky. Last night George W. Bush bid $14,999, but that one left quick.

18. "Kha-Dizzle" sounds legit
Whoever kadizzle is, s/he's got nothing but positive feedback, and is bidding over 16,000.

Wonder if any news sources are picking this up? This would seem to fit in their "feel good, isn't this cute" section of the news.
