For those of you who want to see tonight's "Controversial" Dean Speech
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 11:34 PM by sgr2
Go to www.CNN.com and click "Dean thanks Rivals" in the primary section (Middle bottom)and a window pops up with selections to the right, one of which is labled "DEAN WILL NOT GIVE UP".

Watch the "DEAN WILL NOT GIVE UP" video and post your thoughts here.

I felt he was a bit out of control, but that's just me.

And if you had posted the original thread (the one that was locked) saying, "Hey, is it me, or does Dean seem like he's losin it here."

Ya might, maybe not, but just MIGHT make it seem like you weren't being inflammatory. But hey, now you're just trying to get the second bite at the apple, ya know???

33. Willy, nothing personal
Seriously, I'm glad to see people backing a candidate. But, this is the GD Primary forum, and the other thread wasn't locked because of something I did. It was locked because of the responses contained within it and the fact that I didn't provide a link to the video.

Because we are selecting the person to represent us against George W Bush it does not make any sense to cover up any material, video, etc. I'm sorry it's been a tough day, but it's not my fault.

Fourth... Well, hell... I'd just get banned for that.

8. Dean's speech was not as good as any of the other three
And it hurts to admit it.

I still believe in Dean, I still think he is the best candidate. But he is not as polished delivering a speech. And that is a very important part of campaigning.

His focus has gotten off track. It has gotten to be more about winning than about what got him to where he is--issues.

He will come back because he (and Joe Trippi) are too smart not to see it.

19. I agree. Although it was a very passionate speech...
it was not the out-of -control tantrum that was characterized by some of his detractors and will characterized the same on right-wing radio tomorrow. He felt he needed to fire up his supporters because he knew they were down from his 3rd place finish. I think it may have worked.

34. Hey, If Your Intentions Were Good, Then I Apololgize, But...
some of us Dean supporters have seen a number of posts mocking the finishing position of Dean in tonight's caucuses. I have seen almost none of this from any candidate's supporters, except one. And I don't hold that candidate accountable for his supporter's actions......YET!!!

So... if you REALLY think Dean's advisors let him down, please expand on that theme. That way we know you're not just piling on, or kicking a good man when he may be down.

See... some of us are confused. And next Tuesday, as we have seen from tonight, ANYTHING can happen. And I'm gonna be a whole lot nicer here then, than I'm seein here now. I hope!

You must not have gotten the RNC memo... You're supposed to be a Bush* hater. That's what they're trying to tell you.

There was nothing...I repeat NOTHING that Dean said that I object to. He was gracious, and called both Edwards and Kerry for congratulations.

38. I thought the speech was out of control
It was scary and kind of weird. I think that he did "go nuts" in the speech, at least. And listing how he was going to beat each of his opponents in their own states was just unnecessary and totally uncalled for. It was very unprofessional and I was very bothered by that type of rhetoric. It just further reinforced my concerns with Dean.

Total lack of graciousness in defeat is one thing, but it's quite another to list specifically the home states of all of the other candidates in the race and guarantee you're going to win there. You did catch that, didn't you, everybody? "We're going to win in Massachusetts (Kerry), we're going to win in North Carolina (Edwards)... we're going to win in Ohio (Kucinich), we're going to win in Connecticut (Lieberman), we're going to win in Arkansas (Clark), we're going to win in New York (Sharpton)?"

Controversial? Not really. Totally weak and banal? Oh yeah.

52. sí, se puede
Translation is "yes we can", maybe "if it's possible" if babelfish is feeling ungenerous. As for why he was repeating it over and over, I think Dean has a self-image that doesn't quite correlate with external perception. He's in a bit of a feedback loop from the unqualified adoration of Dean supporters, but he'll tailor his persona to the broader vox populi in good time.

55. The speech was OK verging on great
He was tired, pissed and facing a room full of people who were tired and pissed and on the cusp as to what they were going to do. He let it rip. Nobody who heard it can doubt that he isn't giving up, and that's what those people needed to know. The rest of us are just eavesdroppers.

I suppose anybody in his position could tear off the whole list of primaries to come like that, but I know I couldn't. The roar at the end might have been a bit over the top, but I found it appropriate for what he was doing.

It's not what it would take to convert me to making Dean my first choice, but niether was it anything that bothered me.
