What is the best way to fight the Fox propaganda machine?
Cut off Fox at home?

Adverstiser pressure/boycotts?

I think we really need a counter-network. We need to do what the GOP did with 527s. Make ours so extreme that it discredits and cancels out the whole bunch.

1. Best solution is if Soros bought a network...
and did real news.

Short of a non-GOP/Corporate controlled major news network, I think widespread distribution of "Outfoxed" is the best thing we have going.

2. Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox and so much more is the problem.
Murdoch preaches "family values" on Fox News and peddles sex and violence on his other Fox channels.

If we found a way to get rid of Fox News, this disgusting piece of shit would just find another way to spread pro-Rethug propaganda.

What's really needed is a way to hit Murdoch in his multi-national pocketbook. How? I don't have a clue.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

3. I prefer the old method of ignoring them
Besides, they preach to the quire. I say vote with your pocket book. It’s that simple.

Don’t like Wal-mart? Fuckem don’t shop there.
Don’t like Fox? Fuckem don’t watch them.
Don’t like Outback Steakhouse? Fuckem don’t eat there.

It’s that simple. Eventually when it starts hitting their bottom line, they will wake up say, "shit, the ones with cash don’t want to shop here"

8. They are all the same...
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 08:10 PM by FrenchieCat
CNN is owned by Time-Warner
ABC, CNBC, MSNBC are owned by General Electric - 7th largest defense contractor in the US
ABC is owned by Disney

I think Fox is owned by NewsCorp...which owns, like the above, many, many other news type magazines, publishing houses, newspapers, etc..

CBS is owned by VIACOM.

All in all, these large corporations which own our networks, cable News, magazines, etc.... control about 95% of news outlets. period.

That's why you will see a story go from MSNBC to Newsweek, to Times and on to CNN...round and round. They use each other as source for quotes.

In essense, instead of events controlling the news...the News controls events.

That's what happened during our primaries...that's what happened during the general election.

the 4th estate is no more. Long live Corporatism and Mediacracy! They rule via influence peddling (call those polls) and manipulation.

Just review Russia 25 years ago....and you will see that corporation are pretty much operating as the Russian Govt was operating back then.

That's why I don't believe a f*cking word I hear or read....unless I cross check it with non conglamorate sources.

7. IMO the very best way to counter Fox and the other corp-owned
media is to become the media -- do everything you can think of to support and promote alternative media wherever you find it AND to tell those you come into contact with all about how bad MSM are and how good some of the alternative media are.

12. Support Media Matters for one thing
They are fighting back with lawsuits and holding the RW media machine accountable for their lies.

Boycott advertisers

Somehow get access with a new cable channel and tell the truth about the RW plans and laugh out loud at their idiocy.

For starters

14. Mount our own network
Get the super rich Dems to start buying media outlets.
Boycotting advertisers can also be useful. It helped with Sinclair.

16. Doesn't Redford own the Sundance Channel?
Anyone got his ear (it could happen...)?

They were running tapes of the "O'Franken Factor" pre-election, perhaps we could build upon that.

17. face it...
the rich democrats aren't as "patriotic" as the rich republicans.

money is required to mount an effective offensive, and the rich democrats are sitting on their cash. they don't give a damn, except to mouth platitudes.

too bad. the conservatives put their money where their mouth is, the liberals don't.

20. that's fine if you only care about your own comfort level
the problem is Fox's influence on the electorate. The whole world suffers as a result. We need to counter their ideas with equal force.

21. We need to ask ourselves:
Why is Fox so popular? Do we really want to do what it takes to be that popular? If we come up with a liberal alternative will it be as popular or will it even survive? Do we already have sufficient alternatives that we just need to support more (NPR, CNN, etc)?

A good approach/example is Air America. If it survives and thrives it may end up taking a significant bite out of conservative talk radio.
