20. Maybe he no longer has a "nanny." Doesn't mean he didn't before...
So we shouldn't rule her out so soon. After all, if she was a Minor (let's say), that would be reason to fail to disclose her identity at this point.

Given Bernie's other habits, dating someone under-age is not improbable.

Wild.

Couldn't they come up with a fake story that would last longer than half an hour before it was recognized as bullshit?

Sounds like the guy was set up, almost.

Josh Marshall and NYT both are investigating the existence of the nanny.

8. The nanny story sounded bogus from the git-go.
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 08:32 PM by ocelot
It's totally lame, but I bet they came up with it because, hey, lookit all those Clinton appointees with illegal nannies, so what's the problem? And Bernie 'fessed up to the nanny right away, proving he's more honest than those evil lib'rul Clinton appointees. So let's not talk about the mistresses and the kickbacks and Ground Zero love-nest and the mob connections, cuz, uh, the Clinton people didn't have any of those little problems...

10. If there was a nanny and that was the only issue, does anyone really think
they'd give it a second thought?

11. Usually the word "nanny" makes me think Mary Poppins--
but if there's a goat in the closet, I'll take it, it's been one of those years!

Seriously, the idea that he's withdrawn for fear of being nanny-gated is downright shady. Mistresses in donated apartments--buying apartments he couldn't (bankruptcy?) afford before (on t.v. cop dramas, when IA finds out a fellow is living high on the hog, it's a sign of dirty doin's), keeping company with mobsters, possible inside stock dealing--but honest to Pete--you know it's fudging he paperwork on the help that'll bring a bloke down every time!

17. And without further ado...
She was working in a newspaper in Flushing, Queens
'Til her boyfriend kicked her out
in one of those crushing scenes
What was she to do? Where was she to go?
She was out on her fanny...
So over the bridge from Flushing to the Kerik's door
She was there to sell books, but father saw more
She had style! She had flair! She was there
That's how she became the Nanny!
Who would have guessed that the girl we've described
Was just exactly what the doctor prescribed?
Now the father finds her beguiling (watch out N. Y.C.!)
And the kids are actually smiling (such joie de vivre!)
She's the lady in red when everybody else is to the tenth
The flashy girl from Flushing, the Nanny named Judith!"

15. Yep, Kerik.... another fine representative of our "moral values" pResident
A lying, thieving, shirking, adultering thug. He would've been right at home with the Bush/Cheney cartel.

16. If you sat in a smoke filled room and tried to dream up a plausible
excuse to withdraw a Cabinet nominee, the "nanny problem" is the most likely to work based on precedent.

Unfortunately for Kerik and company, we all saw right through it.

19. Did W use the Kerik nomination & ensuing scandal in order to ...
... scrap his political debt. to Guliani, for his loyalty toward getting W reelected during campaign 2004?
