Joe Conason subbing for Franken; spoke truth to dittohead and made
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 08:54 AM by blondeatlast
Mark have serious doubts about Rush. Did anyone else hear it? It was fantastic, and you could hear the glee in Katharine's voice.

She almost didn't want to end the segmant, I swear.

Can we PLEASE get Joe an AAR show? Pleeeeeease...

2. Give him a weekend show

and you won't need to remove anyone. His normal job probably keeps him busy enough during the week anyway.

11. Good idea!
I love Joe Conason. He's smart, quick on his feet and always has his facts together. Cute, too, from what I hear. ;)

3. Yeah!!!
I think that would be a great idea. I do not think their are enough people talking about the lies coming from the right. I think more people on AAR should point out that Ann Coulter's book "Slander" was a total and complete lie. He could also talk about other things. I think Conason is a great person to do talk about all the lies from the right. I think a Conason show would be a good show, get good rating, and enlighten a large amount of people.

4. Probably the only time I could bear to listen to the dittohead segment
and I missed it. That was Thursday's show?

5. Yes, I just happened to be commuting between offices at the
time or I would have too.

It was a wonder to behold; dittohead Mark was seriously troubled by Rush's masked elitism when Joe pointed it out to him, and I believe it was sincere.

Mark even said he'd read "Big Lies" when Joe said he'd send an autographed copy!

7. It truly sounded like a breakthrough.
But the most endearing part was when Mark said Al has been trying to get through to him for years and that he didn't want to hurt his feelings by letting him know that Joe had succeeded at doing what Al had been unable to do. So he asked Katherine and Joe to not tell Al.

And I'm sure no one else in the studio or entire listening audience will either . . .right ?

But seriously I never heard Mark so sheepishly sincere, thoughtful, and kind before.

8. That's not that surprising
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 09:12 AM by htuttle
My brother and I argue politics like Mark and Al. I've come to realize that the more I push my position with him, the more extreme his own position becomes. I can't believe half the things he says sometimes, to the point where I think he's almost kidding just to piss me off.

But if someone else, such as a stranger he respected, came along and made the same arguments, he might just agree with him. Then if the two of us started to argue again the next day, he'd probably go back with his old positions.

Humans can be funny that way.

13. I think it also shows that Rush has a serious, EXPLOITABLE weakness.
We need to do the same sort of thing, systematically.

19. Al's feelings are going to be hurt
But you had to wonder how Mark could acknowledge Rush's lies week after week and still be a dittohead. Maybe he just wanted to stretch out his radio gig.

9. *** FACT CHECK **** (Conason vs. Rush)
The thrust of Conason's comments on Rush was that he is a "phony populist." Specifically, he is really a member of the "conservative elite": while he pretends to argue the point of view of the "little guy" (vs the "liberal elite"), he is living high on the hog - like any millionaire entertainer would - and laughing all the way to the bank.

As evidence, Conason cited an interview from "Cigar Aficionado" in which Rush claims to favor $2000/bottle FRENCH wines and CUBAN ("communist") cigars. Rush loves Paris and San Francisco as travel destinations.

Lucky for us, the whole piece is online and I have spot-checked a few of Conason's claims. They check out, perfectly.

12. Hubby is a CA subscriber and he remarked on the piece at the time.
He then showed it to his "dittohead" friend at work, and it really set the dh friend back much the way it did Mark. He rarely listens anymore, and when he does, hubby says he is far more questioning than he was. I've seen it myself in social situations--I can actually have a rational conversation with said friend.

I think we can definitely work this to our advantage.

Rush is phony, pure and simple.

Let's deflate this airbag!

22. Instead of proving Rush a liar we should have been giving them copies
Of Cigar Afficionado??? Damn!

Well, that proves again that his appeal has nothing to do with reality and facts, which is why the dittoheads brush such trivia aside. The appeal is to emotions, the "common man" against the "librul" elite that lives high sipping French wine and smoking illegal Commie cigars. LOL.

What did they think? With all those bucks Rush was chowing down at the local Sizzler, shopping at WalMart, buying his suits off the rack and vacationing in Branson, Missouri in his RV??? Good Grief.

He loves Paris and SF? Nothing wrong about that at all. Unless you happen to be a RW whackjob.

10. Get Joe a show! Franken's if possible!
I missed yesterday's show as I no longer tune in during "let's face it we lost" hour. But I not only read Conason, I heard him on radio - interacting - one of his best was on the Majority report where his quoick wit was brought forth by Jeanine. He is knowledgeable, passionate, funny - and really courageous.
And, not running for office - so he can stick to the truth too.

15. I hate to throw cold water on this...because I adore Conason too...
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 10:03 AM by hlthe2b
But, the entire segment sounded rehearsed to me at least from Mark Luther's (dittohead) point of view. Several of us were discussing that here yesterday after the segment.

Now, granted, I'd gladly be wrong on this.... But, I have major doubts that the dittohead has renounced his idolatry for Limbaugh.

On edit, WHY would Luther do this as an act? Well, given how much negative feedback, Franken gets on the spot, from all of us, he was probably just throwing us a "bone," (much like Rumsfeld does when he is in "trouble").

I hope I'm wrong but don't want to see everyone set up for disappointment. We Dem/Progressives are truly idealistic, but I did recently take a big ole CYNICAL pill! LOL Hope I'm wrong!

What dittohead is really going to talk to Franken anyway? Still, I like the soundbites Franken uses on his show.

25. Mark Luther is an old buddy of Franken's. If it's a set up bit it isn't
particularly amusing or effective IMO. If I have the show on I tend to turn it off when that segment is on.

23. Mark is an old friend of Franken's who used to be a lefty. He showed up
at one of the Franken show on the road shows that had live audiences. Apparently it's more than just a set up bit. Before the election Sundance Channel was showing 50 minutes of video of the show before the election and I saw him on one of them.
