Everytime Bush steals an election he is made "Person of the Year" by Time |
|
In 2000--he was "Person of the Year" (really that should have been awarded jointly to Bush and Gore) and now in 2004. In '00 the supreme court made him president and in '04 wide spread problems with voting machines helped elect him.
Presidents who have been "Man" or "Person" of the Year: FDR--3 times (32,34,41) Truman--45, 48 Ike--44 (before he was president) then again in '59 JFK--'61 LBJ--'64, '67 Nixon--'71 (surprisingly only once though he has graced more covers of TIME magazine than anybody else--so when Nixon said that unlike JFK, "I'm not a cover boy" he was lying). Ford--never Carter--'76 Reagan--'80 and '83 (jointly with Andropov) Bush I--'91 Clinton--'92 and '98 (jointly with Ken Starr!) Bush II-- '00, '04

Hitler in '38 (by the way, Lindbergh who was a Nazi sympathizer was the first man of the year in '27.
Stalin was moy in '39 & '42
The Ayatollah was moy in '79
Interestingly Gorbachev was MOY twice in '87 and '89 which seems to indicate that Time thought he had more to do with the demise of the Soviet Union that Ronald Reagan did.

can be just as much a disgrace as an honor. Go to a right wing website, they're more pissed off about it than we are.

7. Honestly, I don't believe that's true anymore. |
|
If it was, TIME would have awared POTY to bin Laden in 2001, as their criteria is something along the lines of who has made the most impact in the world during the year. (That's not an exact quote.) Instead, they award it to Rudy Gulianni. Honestly, did Rudy have much influence outside of New York City? Did his decisions after 9/11 have much impact in the world? No, I think TIME hands it out as an honor now. And it's a crap excuse on their part.

8. I think Time joined the dark side years ago |

Really and this isn't just another hyperbole-filled post by me.
I remember someone with Time, I forget his name, was interviewing Howard Dean before the Democratic primary got hot and heavy. I've always remembered the question that he asked of Dean, "Have you accepted jesus christ as your personal savior?"
It was a big WTF? moment for me. At that moment I knew that Time was either infiltrated by RW dominionists or it was a conscious editorial decision to fan the flames of red vs. blue.
It feels like were careening into some Margaret Atwood-inspired hell full speed ahead.
