Harry Reid could be a great leader
I think he'll be tough. He's drawn the line pretty firmly on the privatization of Social Security. As an old-schooler this is an issue he feels strongly about.

Yeah he's pro-life, but so what? He's not going to get in the way on that issue, in the meantime he could be the one who fuckin' saves Social Security - keeps it from going Enron on us.

Further, Reid at least talks like a normal person, knows how to tell a story. That's something Daschle never learned how to do...

2. Whenever Daschle talked I cringed
I knew he wasn't going over well. His voice was puny, weak. He talked wierd - called Pelosi "leader Pelosi" in a wierd voice like he was on an episode of Deep Space Nine. Even when I read his quotes in the paper they came off funny.

Reid comes off solid.

8. Sorry, his nomination confirmations have been on the wrong side
Jay Bybee is anti-choice, anti-environment and pro-torture and Daschle failed to filibuster Bybee as a FAVOR to Reid. Reid backed Jeffrey Sutton, who wants to gut the Americans with Disability Act and who is also pro-choice. Reid backed Porter Goss, even though Goss wanted to use the CIA in America against Americans and to make it a partisan organization for the REPUBLICANS. Also Reid recently got the Senate Dems (except Byrd) to back the Intelligence Reform Act, which includes national I.D. cards, making membership in organizations the AG puts on a list a crime, retinal scans and mandatory jobs. He's a dangerous roll-over idiot.

4. I just read through the other thread and saw all the attacks on Reid
It kind of pissed me off - so instead of kicking the other one I just wanted to start a new one.

11. Actually, I think he was just spamming ...
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 04:16 PM by Laelth
... to get to 1,000 posts. He needed something to respond to, so he started about 5 threads that he knew would irritate a few folks around here.

Fell better, rockydem? ;) Congratulations, btw. Hope you no longer feel the need to instigate battles with DU's pro-choice majority.

Peace. :hi:

6. Great leaders would not say that the man who murdered democracy 12/12/2000
was a "brilliant mind" and imply that we need MORE like him on the Supreme Court. Reid & Pelosi are DLC NEOCON APPEASING COWARDS and if they add Roemer of the Warren Commission II to the mix, this party is officially fucking dead.

7. They may just save Social Security
Wait and see - don't be so hyperbolic and bomb throwing, it's not reasonable.

If you had your way the Dems would become about as influential as the Greens.

12. here's what Lewis Lapham of "Harpers" has to say about Reid . . .
from his "Notebook" in the January, 2005, issue . . .

". . . on November 16 the chastened and recently reduced minority of Democrats still present in the Senate deferred to the sensibility of the nearest clergymen and named as their leader Harry Reid of Nevada. Non-obstructionist and much admired for his never having to hold his nose, Reid fit the description of a Democrat saved by Jesus -- a teetotaling Mormon, a former Capitol Hill police officer, opposed to abortion, co-sponsor of the constitutional amendment deeming it a crime to burn the flag, careful to say nothing that anybody might remember, described by his colleagues as 'strong as a new rope when he needs to be,' as amiable as Mr. Rogers, the kind of guy who'll 'make the trains run on time.'" . . .

yeah . . . just the kind of guy we need to create a real opposition party . . . :puke:

13. And how, exactly, is this guy a Democrat?
Is there a single issue on which he and I might agree? Is there anything the R's do that he opposes?

just curious ...
