Woman Pleads Guilty to Threatening Bush

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A woman pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of threatening President Bush (news - web sites).

A grand jury indicted Catherine M. Guertin, 24, in August and she was arrested the next month. Her guilty plea was entered as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors, according to court documents.

The threats were made in May while Guertin was living in Independence, the indictment says.

The woman allegedly threatened Bush by saying, "I want him gone" and "If I ever have a gun, I will shoot him between the eyes." She also allegedly wrote statements threatening the president.

1. "Wrote statements" and sent them to Bush? Or did she intend these

statements for someone else's eyes? This story is so short that it's hard to tell whether she posed a legitimate threat. I have to say that I doubt it....

Officials said Guertin told a Secret Service agent May 3 that she did not agree with Bush's war policies. She said she thought that the president was a liar and that he was only interested in securing oil supplies.

Guertin also reportedly said that she wanted to kill Bush "because he kills people that do not agree with him," and that she wanted to make a bomb the next time she was in Washington, D.C.

"I want him gone," Guertin reportedly told the agent, referring to Bush. "I want him dead. I want to attack him. If I ever have a gun, I will shoot him between the eyes."

Officials said that on May 16, Guertin wrote in her journal that she hated the president and wanted to kill him.

4. How did they know what was in her journal?

I'm assuming she said something to someone, and a phone call was made. Good grief.

5. I assume they searched her belongings after she made those

unfortunate comments to the agent. I'd like to know the particulars of the case ... and why the agent was talking to her in the first place. Someone probably did hear her spouting off, and made a call. But I'd feel better about the whole thing if they'd report enough detail to show she was actually a threat.

in this country or any other that is a crime! It looks like a direct enough threat to me. How many people do you think there really are out there that don't realize this? I feel sorry for this woman. She cracked-up but if she made those statements the law is clear.
