It really makes sense and sounds like somethign they'd do. How do we get the word out so when it happens, more people can see through them?

6. I have said this from the beginning...
Though he certainly gets his share of blame, I felt that the chimp should have always been the one in the hot seat. Thank god, Wes Clark made this point yesterday as well, when he was on with wolf-face blitzer.

9. Calling for Rumsfailed's resignation helps get publicity for the failures
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 08:00 AM by w4rma
of this misadministration on Iraq. And the fact that Bush is fighting to KEEP Rumsfailed connects Bush to these failures more and more.

I gotta disagree with you on this, matcom. We should keep calling for his resignation and keep watching as Bush keeps trying to defend and therefore connects himself to these failures even more. I think it's important that Dems also talk about how Bush will keep Rumsfailed no matter what he does because Bush AGREES with him.

13. Are you assuming Rumsfeld won't sing?
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 08:11 AM by gottaB
Once he is stripped of the protections of his office, he will be more vulnerable to prosecution for his crimes.

Even if he's no canary, he may find that he's compelled to reveal certain facts that would implicate Mr. Bush. IMO that's less likely to happen while Rumsfeld's in office.

Anyway, he's earned our contempt. He really is responsible for some horrible deeds.

33. I agree. He deserves his lot. He is culpable.
Plus, he is the firmest leg remaining of the Bush stool. It will topple soon.

(That sounds so nasty...and is.)

14. It would take an act of (a complicit) Congress to get rid of Bush.
Starting with the corrupt House.

At this point, I will take what we can get. Rumsfeld needs to go - to prison, if possible. Everyone in this administration - from war architect to administrator - deserves the same.

Hobble the beast that is the Bush administration one leg at a time. By mid-term, the whole cadre will be so chastened with turnover that voters will not recognize anyone.

But they will remember who is not there.

17. Remember Nixon in 1973?
He started jettisoning staff to get the blame to somehow go away. He got eaten alive.

Actually, I'd prefer Rumsfeld to stay in longer if only to make the Bush administration look bad. Rummy is going to slip up even more...it makes the impeachment process even easier.

Cheney will either take a dirt nap or do a Spiro Agnew hopefully.

19. Actually it should continue.
The only reason Rumsfeld is still there is because shrub can't replace him. If he were to replace him the American people ( those that support shrub) would view it as a path to success. Success can't be had in Iraq (not under this administration and their warped logic). What excuse would shrub and gang have then?

21. What if he resigns and * continues to **** things up?
Eventually people will hang it on *, just as they did with Nixon.

In this case, though, Rummy was clearly making decisions that he wanted to make and he certainly has alternatives if he wanted to step down quietly. Not quite the same as a private carrying out orders. So I have no pity for him and think he should resign, but that the call (and the buck) doesn't stop there.

23. Yup, this is one more case of Bush putting the blame on anyone but
himself.

It's more diversion. Get everyone thinking the mess in Iraq is due to Rumsfeld's mishandling of it all by himself.

Rumsfeld is a complete ass, but Bush is making him the goat.

24. I disagree. We need someone who has the chance to be successful
as our Secretary of Defense. Whether or not it makes the Bush administration look good or not, we have got to make some progress in Iraq. Wishing for Rumsfield to stay at the helm is, IMHO, like asking for continued prisoner abuse, continued American troops deaths, continued chaos in Iraq, etc. I just can't wish for that. Rumsfield is already going to go down as one of history's villains. We can't wish for the death to continue.

Rumsfeld is Cheney's boy. He fully deserves all of the shit that is coming his way. He is the one who has been making all of the decisions, not Bush. Bush is a puppet for Cheney and all of his buddies, including Rumsfeld.

32. Here's Clark's transcript

BLITZER: Do you want Donald Rumsfeld to resign as secretary of defense?
CLARK: Well, I've never called on that. You know, he's -- Secretary Rumsfeld's made some serious misjudgments. I think he's been disrespectful of the troops and frankly, I was shocked by what he said to the soldiers questioning about the lack of armor. I mean, that should have all been nailed down, it should have been corrected months and months and months ago. But ultimately, this is President Bush's policy. And Donald Rumsfeld is executing it.
