A little hope for your holiday weekend
Well, Christmas is officially over (at least for those of us in the Central and Eastern time zones), but that doesn't mean that we can't still celebrate.

So many of us heard "hope is on the way" this year and believed it. And now, so many of us are saying that all hope is lost, or at least on hold for a few years. Truth is, hope is still on the horizon, and I, personally, refuse to give up.

What is this world that we still hope for?

One in which there is no war among nations for greed and power.

In which we can feed the hungry and clothe the homeless.

In which we can find a cure for AIDS and reach out to Africa and other stricken countries to provide support - not for political reasons, but just because we are a caring nation.

In which we can also find cures for cancer, for Alzheimer's, for MS, for all the diseases that plague us now.

In which everybody gets a chance at the American Dream, not just those who are connected to big corporations and their CEOs.

In which we realize the goals of equality for all - for every race, for every ethnicity, for every sexual orientation, for every gender (a world in which women are valued just as much as men), for every human being.

In which families can afford to raise their children and those children can grow up in a grateful, generous, and truly compassionate society.

In which "peace on earth" is not just a dream we all have; it is a reality.

In which crime is diminished and justice is brought quickly to those who commit theft and murder.

In which we are, once again, a respected force in the world, working with other nations instead of distancing ourselves from them.

In which we can engage in honest, nationwide debate about the path and future of our country.

In which we never have any doubts over the legitimacy and honesty of our government.

We cannot, however, achieve these goals by sitting around and doing nothing. Hopeless as it may seem sometimes, we need to keep working, and keep fighting.

What does your vision of a future world look like?
