What do you say to someone that posts this on a message board?
"The USA must seek to rule the world or die a slow death.

There is no static nation, you are either expanding or contracting.

We should strive to be more like the Rome of the past. I know I'll get some stupid ass liberal to say 'Rome didn't last.' - Yeah well, nothing lasts forever. While on top though, we might as well live like kings."

There are sick people out there...This is what we are up against.

7. This Dumbass Should Heed the Warnings of History
I bet he's also a fundie who would love to see a 'Christian' theocracy rule the United States. He should look back to his beloved Roman Empire & what happened after they took up Christianity as the state religion - being conquered by 'barbarians.'

Which reminds me...the 'barbarians' have gotten a bum rap over the centuries, when their culture was no less civilized than that of the Romans.

11. yeah, and us barbarians had it great
until the pope said we couldn't buy christian slaves for our human sacrifices any more. In, Germany around 1100 or so! Took 'em a while, and I'm sure there were perfectly understandable mixups, what with everyone's slaves suddenly claiming to be christian.

9. well for starters
Rome's economy was based acquiring spoils from invading new countries. It's agrarian side was based on slave labor. When they could no longer hold those provinces, their economy collapsed. Every time they marched on the way to someplace new, their armies destroyed the land and economy on the way there to feed the army, and again on the way back.

Nothing is static - correct, but "growing" isn't the same thing as "ruling". Certainly, I don't think he was advocating a "world government", do you think?

Now someone should tell that kid he has more important things to than pontificate on history - maybe he should go bust a couple more zits, beat his pit bull some more and get the oldest tires out of the front yard from in front of the trailer - be a productive member of conservative society.

12. I would probably post nothing...
..but logically the poster should compare his support for conquering the world to similar modern efforts, since technology and culture have changed so much since the Roman Empire. The Nazi's might be a better example.

16. This person lives in a trailer park in some backwoods
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 03:58 PM by Gman
trailer park, assuredly a male, probably receives a disability check, drives a 1985 Ford station wagon with a W 04 sticker, barely graduated from high school and has absolutely nothing to his name to speak of. This person likely blames Blacks and other minorities for his plight, has no personal power and lives his life through others. So, he sees this "rule the world" crap as his only way to claim any personal power albeit through others. It gives him a feeling of worth and power that he lacks from any other worthwhile source. The slow death comment refers to his own plight in a Freudian way.

Don't waste your time with him. He's a sick and angry pup.

Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 05:37 PM by agitpropagent9
this is not a fringe idea, abhorrent though it may be. much of the neocon agenda is informed and inspired by the teachings of leo strauss, and his philosophy has quite a bit of intellectual gravitas among its proponents.

so, yeah, the guy may be a whack-job, but to dismiss this type of statement as the ramblings of the lunatic fringe is to invite it to grow.

a decent strauss primer for the uninitiated.

19. You miss the point completely.
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 06:08 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
Your recent forebears did indeed live like kings, but that was because, by courtesy of the likes of the CIA, The School of the Americas and, oddly enough, the World Bank, they did indeed have a vast treasure trove of an empire.

However, it succeeded because it achieved its goals covertly, in a clandestine, hidden way. All over the world there were countries in which aspiring heads of state absolutely *had* to have the backing of the US. Money was no object, since it would be repaid many times over by the people of those countries, who were kept in political subjection, so that the US and secondly the West, generally, could exploit them economically, as they all but stole their raw materials.
Let's just say that a change to a policy of military aggression seems to have been somewhat counter-productive.

23. It sounds like a typical Republican, heh.
There was a caller like this on the Thom Hartmann show today; he kept going off about how we need to kill all of the terrorists so that they will realize we mean business. He actually went off and said the US should of nuked all of Fallujah because "there were no innocent civilians".

I was nearly ready to throw something at the computer - people are sick; really sick!

(I'm paraphrasing of course, but you get the general idea)

26. heh, say, "your time has already passed, can't you see the death throes?"
and as they disagree, just add that every simgle thing we've done for the past... several decades are just the last dying throes of of a dying empire... just like all before them. and if they still struggle, remind them nothing saved those empires except peace, when it was the last resort and all else was lost.

honestly, why bother with such a person. but if you must, twist the knife a bit, for me, k?

29. haha
actually, I kind of like the fact that this clown is on this particular message board. He really makes the right look crazy and that can only help. He does provide for a goosd laugh until I remind myself that he is actually a person that really has those thoughts and there are others like him (as opposed to just some mean computer that writes trash). The board is 2:1 in favor of the right. This clown, who goes by the name of askjoe never responds to any of my comments though:

28. I wish more of them said such things
The person who posted this is getting to the truth of the Neo-Con agenda. The administration has been careful to stay away from revealing these ideas openly because America would reject it. IMO it would be good news for us if more republicans showed this side to the public.
