Some whining from the New York Post - Podhoretz
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 11:40 AM by camby
IT'S ABOUT THE TRAGEDY - NOT MORE BUSH-BASHING

By JOHN PODHORETZ

December 31, 2004 --

THE political and ideological exploitation of perhaps the worst natural disaster in all our lifetimes is almost beyond belief — were it not for the fact that nothing these days is beyond belief.

Even as tears spring into the most hard-hearted person's eyes at both the unimaginable scope of the tragedy and at the wrenching individual stories of loss, opinion leaders just can't help themselves.

They are using this cataclysm as little more than cheap debate fodder about the nature and character of the United States, its president and its citizens.

<http://www.nypost.com/commentary/37436.htm>

SHEEESH.... You can just feel the self righteousness dripping from every word. HOW CAN WE BE SO HEARTLESS!!!! HOW CAN WE POLITICIZE THIS HUMANITARIAN CRISIS!!!! HOW CAN WE LIVE WITH OURSELVES!!!!
That sound you hear is me whipping myself in shame and humiliation....NOT!!!!

important facts..bush is pouring our money down the Iraqi pit and was tossing the tsunami victims..$35 measley million until he was shamed into "pledging" more..when I see they have gotten it ..then I will believe it.

Am I right on this?

It was the complaining and attention that got the additional 20 million loan and then the bigger aid package. Still though the wealth amassed by the riches American dickweeds is sickening compared to the amount of disaster relief. We need more bitching and complaining!

the "just a start" was a later PR coverup. And yes, 300 million SUCKS considering the amount of money we are spending to invade, bomb and occupy a country based on a PACK OF LIES. What we give in the end does not make up for the fact that as usual, that thieving incompetent bastard was AWOL again, just like he was in the Guard AND on 9/11.

I can't figure out the motivation -- still, a billion is truly pennies compared to the waste that we've doled out on Iraq.

29. Private charity does NOT absolve the Government
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 10:02 AM by kenzee13
from its' obligations as a responsible member of the world community.

This is a typical RW tactic - act as if all social responsibility rests with the individual citizen, not with bodies created to express their common will -ie, government. Half the working people in your community can't feed their families on their wages? Don't change the wage structure, that's communism - just increase private donations to Food Banks! Right.

Unfortunately, the responsibility of the State to be a responsible member of the world community is a notion foreign to the puppet occupying the WH.

edit for spelling error

10. You mean a measly $100K
Which the corrupt Bush administration hopes you forget entirely.

The reason, dear Mr. Podhoretz, that we have politicized this tragedy is because we're following the sterling example set by our nation's leaders, who have politicized everything from caring for your children to undisputed 35 year old war records.

But I suspect what really sticks in the neocon craw is that by adopting their tactics, we've actually effected a positive difference, as the initial 100 grand has increased to a more respectable promise of $350 million in aid. Almost entirely due to the public shaming of the niggardly Bush administration, which always finds billions for its imperial aggression, but squeals like the piggies they are when they have the pledge millions to do the right thing.

The next step is to make sure the promises become reality. This administration has a long track record of talking big but acting small.

12. these are the talking points - David Brooks used the same line
On the Newshour he turned it around - those who were asking WHERE THE PRESIDENT IS during the epic disaster were the ones politicizing the event and taking their eyes off of the tragedy. It was shameless spin. Horrible. I hope David "Teeny Little Girly Hands" Brooks has a natural disaster in his own back yard this year.

When attacked, take the very attacks that are leveled against you and turn them against your attackers. Yesterday on Hannity's show his stand-in was wailing about WHERE IS GEORGE SOROS? WHERE IS STREISAND? WHY DON'T YOU HEAR ABOUT WHAT THOSE PEOPLE ARE CONTRIBUTING? WHY IS EVERYBODY PICKING ON BUSH???

Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 12:12 PM by Stephanie

"How DARE you criticize the president when all of those people are suffering?" That's the line. Simple, no?

Just the same as "How DARE you criticize the president during this time of war. How DARE you criticize the president during this terrorist threat."

not the leader of the free world. They are not expected to be in a leadership position as far as addressing the nation in a call to assistance. THAT is the president's job. Got it now?

32. The Classic Republican "Style-Over-Substance" Fallacy
Again -- this is what they do. They don't respond to an attack by making an argument, they attack the timing, tone or delivery of the message -- in this case, the timing.

It's nothing but more totalitarian bullshit, messing with the language and creating more false binaries -- and creating noise to cover up the real issues. Pathetic fuckers.
