Bush Monkeys painting removed by ebay
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 01:19 PM by catgirl
I am so pissed off! I just looked up the Bush Monkeys painting by Chris Savido being sold on ebay (item # 3771067185) to find ebay REMOVED the auction listing!! This is the same painting that caused the mgr. of New Yorks's Chelsea Market to close an entire art exhibit causing an uproar about censorship. It was a portrait of Bush made up of swimming chimpanzees. The proceeds were going to go to great causes 1. armor for soldiers and 2.a scholarship fund for disadvantaged youths who want to pursue a career in the arts. This is an outrage!

4. Oh. I looked it up and it just said "No Items Found" blah blah blah,
that's why I asked. If this is really the case, this is very fucked up. Type in "Bush Mokey" and other paintings show up bashing Bush. WTF? Where in the Terms does it say you can't auction something derogatory against the POS in the White House?

8. What rule did this painting break?
I SELL on ebay!!! I am so mad right now. I just e-mailed them demanding an answer. I have the listing saved and the link to the painting is where ebay notes it was removed. I'd like to know how much of the fees I pay each month went to the repugs.

16. A lil knee jerk
Is there anything else to back up the idea that this was removed for political reasons. This thread seems to be filled with overreaction without enough data to go on. As someone else said, there are other monkey bush painting there so it's not like they're purging ebay.
There may be more behind the scenes.

21. Ebayers can complain to ebay about an item....
and then ebay determines if it breaks a rule. There were probably lots of repug complaints since it was up to $15,000 + and getting lots of attention. Still, it can't possibly have broken any rules.

22. Maybe (re: behind the scenes)
Perhaps the bids were so high, ebay had to step in with some kind of $ security measure & it will be relisted? I'll post the answer I get from ebay. It usually takes up to 48 hrs.

17. Ebay also removed the chickenhawk card decks
Anyone else remember that? Back when they passing out those stupid decks of cards in Iraq and people were selling them or knockoffs on Ebay, an artist made a parody deck of * administration chickenhawks, and Ebay removed them.

23. Jesus eBay really sucks.
How the hell do you contact them? I can't figure out how. I went under the Help section, typed in Contact eBay. I kept following the obnoxious and intelligence-insulting series of questionnaire links about what my "problem" was and they led to a fucking blank page telling me I don't have to "contact" them, my answer is right here at the "link below" which was blank. No matter what I selected as my "problem", they claimed it could be solved by going to the nonexistent link and that was the end of that.

WTF.

24. I found a suggestion box...?
http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/index.html

If you're a member and you click "bidding and buying," you can eventually get to an email form to ask whether something is prohibited or not. I'm going to write and ask them whether/why this auction wasn't allowed.

26. Here's a list of "prohibited" things
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/items-ov.html

I'm wondering if it has to do with the "Faces, Names and Signatures" thing (as IF they enforce that elsewhere)! Somebody probably reported it as a violation of something on this list.

27. That's one of the many reasons old-time eBayers have gone off ...
the site. Management there isn't terribly responsive to the concerns of their buyers or sellers, they just figure it's easier to replace them with big retailers that want to move old stock, now. Not like when they first started & their 'customers' were gold. BTW - election fraud is breaking through to some degree to the larger population when you see it being discussed in the eBay forums (a VERY good sign)! Check some of the forums out, they are shaking their heads & waking up to the realization that not all is right in consumerland!

Love it!

25. Don't jump to conclusions.
There have been many auctions for items that are openly anti-Bush. I find it hard to believe that they would single this one out.
