DU this poll!
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 10:06 PM by Senior citizen
In San Diego, Donna Frye, a Democrat, a city council member, and a write-in candidate, won the race for mayor by about 3,000 votes.

Donna Frye was not sworn in because the registrar of voters didn't count all the votes. We voted on paper ballots with little bubbles that had to be filled in next to the candidate's names. But Donna's name wasn't on the ballot, and many people wrote in Donna's name but forgot to fill in the bubble.

In three different states scanners have been found to have misread bubbles and given votes to the wrong candidates. Scanners are not infallible. Those scanners--they're forever blowing bubbles.

The Republican incumbent, Dick Murphy, said that unless the bubble was filled in, he couldn't tell the intent of the voter just because they wrote in the name DONNA FRYE. He's a real smart guy. He also couldn't figure out what was going on when they underfunded the city pensions, and when San Diego lost its credit rating.

NBC has a poll up. Please vote! (Click on "Vote: Should Frye concede the election?") My opinion? No way! Just because Kerry conceded, doesn't mean all Democrats have to wimp out. We've got a lawsuit filed, we're marching in rallies, and we want some fiscal responsibility in city government for a change. When a write-in gets more votes than the incumbent, the intent of the voters is clear!

3. Optical scanners
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 10:14 PM by inslee08
Being a student that often takes tests/quizzes on optical scanning machines, I see the possible inaccuracies in the system. Frequently, we notice how wrong answers get marked right and right answers get marked wrong, etc (with agreement from the teacher, mind you). The thought that these machines help decide our president and in this case mayors...UGH.

Edit: And yes, I did vote in that poll. Thanks for the link.

7. Dunno, idiosyncratic. Maybe next time they'll want us to

write in the name, fill in the bubble, recite the pledge of allegiance, bow three times, stand on our heads, and translate the ballot into Sanscrit.

The effing truth is that they don't give a hoot about the intent of the voters. The thieves in power just want to stay in power. And that's at all levels of politics.

Donna Frye wants to open up the books to a complete audit and to stop the city council from having unnecessary closed meetings. My guess is that there is so much skullduggery to hide that they'll do anything to stop her. They don't seem to understand that unless we can have at least the appearance of free and fair elections, we might return to the good old days of tar and feathers and run the crooks out of town on a rail. See if they can pretend they don't know our intent after that!
