Stadium-sized Support: 30,000 bid Texas troops goodbye
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/2974109

WACO - Saturday's ceremony marking the largest deployment of Texas National Guard troops since World War II was bittersweet. But they could not help but be moved by Saturday's rousing show of support. The ceremony, which took place at Baylor University's Floyd Casey Stadium, included patriotic music, inspirational speeches and nearly 30,000 flag-waving fans and relatives who gave up their New Year's Day football games to offer the troops a big send-off.

The event drew Texas Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, as well as other state political figures, to say farewell to the 56th Brigade Combat Team.

Check this out from Chimpy:

>>There was speculation that President Bush, who was vacationing at his ranch in nearby Crawford, might make an appearance, but his staff said the president did not want to put the families through the intense security screening that would be required for his visit.<<

Yeah right. The real reason is he probably thought some of the soldiers and those angry family members will boo his sorry butt.

1. They wouldn't boo

This was a pep-rally for a football game folks. That is how war is treated (by anyone not in it)...I would expect the rally today was probably quite a jingoistic exercise.

4. Just shows that Texas is the jingoist of all the jingoistic states in the
Union. All those spectators have their heads so far up Chimpy's ass, they'll never see the light. Doesn't matter that BushCo is sending their family member off to some god forsaken country where we have no legitimate right to be to fight an illegal war, only to kill and maim thousands of innocents or be killed and maimed themselves. Texans are too macho to worry about all that stuff. It's "manly" to march off to war, never questioning their fearless leader. Texans would have made really good Germans during WWII. (Apologies to Texas liberals, the few that exist).

7. Chimpy knows that Texans carry guns legally
If there is one place that Chimpy might want to sleep with one eye open after these troops go fight his oil war, it's Texas.

Wait until the Texans see that they were duped by the AWOL pussy.

9. I'm not sure its as jingoistic as much as it was genuine support for troop
What I have beef with is justifications for the war, not with showing support for the troops. If you want to know why they support the war, perhaps you should find out what sources of news they use.
