2. Neat article and pic of Corroon and his family.

SNIP..."Salt Lake County mayoral candidate Peter Corroon drives his slightly beat-up, 10-year-old Ford Explorer from an early-morning campaign stop — where he handed out Krispy Kreme doughnuts to appreciative county public works employees — to ZAP Appreciation Day at Hogle Zoo."

SNIP.." "I need to find a Maverik," he says, passing Chevrons, Texacos, Conocos. He finds the station he wants and shuffles what appears to be a full deck of credit cards to find the one that will save him a few cents a gallon.

"I'm a penny-pincher," he says as he fills up. "I believe in investing money, not spending money. The incident is typical of 40-year-old Corroon, a Democrat who is running against Republican Ellis Ivory and independent Merrill Cook.

"He's always ruled his finances with an iron fist," said Corroon's twin brother and business partner, Chris. The son of a successful New York real estate man and first cousin to erstwhile presidential candidate Howard Dean, Corroon is a methodical man, one who prefers toiling behind the scenes to get things done rather than trumpeting himself in front of the cameras...."

5. Corroon sounds like a strong leader.

SNIP.." Acting county Mayor Alan Dayton, who calls this "an exciting new chapter in the county," says Corroon won't be alone.
"It's not like coming in and coaching a football team that had its senior class leave," he says. "County government has a lot of its team intact."
That could bode well, according to Jensen, who says Corroon's management style is a stark contrast from Workman's.
"Peter seems to delegate a little more and be a little more open in receiving feedback," Jensen says.
The mayor will also have more political balance (five Republicans to four Democrats) on the County Council following the election of Democrat Jenny Wilson - though he insists most council business is nonpartisan.
Even so, he wants to change what he calls the county's "silo mentality," which he says is often shared by council members.
"I'm going to allow better communication," he says, "There's no reason why a council member can't call a department head to get information." Such a gag was in place under Workman....."

6. Corroon and I helped build Utah for Dean.....back when he was running.
He's a super nice guy with a wonderful family. I think he'll make a good mayor and I'm glad residents in Salt Lake County supported him!
