Thou Shalt Not Discipline Swine
Thou Shalt Not Discipline Swine

House Speaker Dennis 'suuuu-eeeee' Hastert, sending a message that Republican swine should not be subject to Congressional rules, is considering replacing the chairman of the ethics committee, which kicked the ass of Majority Leader Tom DeLay the wicked elf, who is the focus of a grand jury probe into his sleazy campaign finance practices. With any luck the grande jury could lock Tommy-boy in the slammer. Hastert has not yet made up his mind about whether to replace Rep. Joel Hefley, R-Colo., when Congress reconvenes on Tuesday, his spokesman said, we are just floating the idea to see if anyone notices.

"The speaker thinks that Chairman Hefley has done a terrific job (wink-nod)," Hastert spokesman said Thursday. "If he makes that decision, it will be because of the rules, not for any other reason (wink-nod), you must excuse me now, I must worship at the feet of the Exalted One, his Holiness DeLay"

"It is our responsibility to uphold a high ethical standard," said DeLay's Democratic counterpart, Rep. Nancy 'deer in the headlights' Pelosi of California. "Removing a chair of the Ethics Committee for upholding that standard would be a stain on the House of Representatives." At which point the press corp burst into laughter.

The stink of a grand jury action hovers over DeLay as a Texas state grand jury probe continues under the direction of prosecutor Ronnie 'head-hunter' Earle, a Democrat, fine ameriKan and brave truth-sayer.

In September, grand jurors indicted three DeLay henchmen and eight unscrupulous corporations in an investigation of allegedly illegal corporate contributions to a political dirty tricks organization associated with DeLay. On Thursday in Texas, a judge accepted a deal in which prosecutors dropped charges against one of the eight corporations, Sears, Roebuck and Co., in exchange for its cooperation in the investigation. This is the classic stool-pigeon deal. Sears prepares to sing like a canary.

Earlier, prosecutors made a similar deal to drop charges against another of the eight companies, Diversified Collections Services Inc. Somehow DeLay's involvement with collection services fits his persona perfectly. Repomen to the rescue.

Nicknamed "the Hammer" for his persuasive style with House members who might resist his positions, the majority leader can be of invaluable help with members' legislation, their committee assignments, their chairmanships and their campaign war chests. It's hammer-time...queue the disco music.

2. One should not teach pigs to sing, either
It wastes one's time
and annoys the pig.
