Donnie Fowlers response to my email
I saw his interview on C-span and sent him an e-mail thanking him for his aggressive, proud-to-be-liberal style. I like that he encourages visiting blogs and even gave a short list of examples, although DU wasn't on there. Blogs and this forum are my only link to the truth anymore and I'm glad to see he respects them.

Here's the e-mail:

Dear,

Thank you for your email. Your kind words give me a lot of
encouragement.

This campaign for DNC Chair has really taken off in
the last few weeks. Let me tell you a little about what is happening.

First, I need YOUR HELP to make this happen. Please take a moment to
...
* write a letter to several DNC members about my agenda for change
* go to a political blog and say some good things
www.dailyKos.com
www.bloggingofthepresident.com
www.MyDD.com
www.reachm.com/amstreet
* make a contribution (if you haven't already!)
* vote for me online at http://standupdemocrats.org/

On the FINANCE FRONT, several of the top finance folks in the nation
have signed on to the effort and are helping raise money. It is a
great show of credibility when a DNC chair candidate, especially
someone who wants to make institutional changes, earns the respect of
folks like ...
Finance Co-Chairs
* Mark Gorenberg, Kerry'04 Western Finance Chairman (California)
* Hassan Nemazee, Kerry'04 New York Finance Chairman (NYC)
* Mitchell Berger, Gore'00 Victory Fund Chairman (Florida)
* Marie-Louise Ramsdale, Democratic Fundraiser & Mom (South Carolina)
National Finance Directors
* Stephanie Berger, Kerry Eastern Finance Director (DC)
* Rachel Hirschberg, Clark'04 Mid-Atlantic Finance Director (DC)
* David Rosen, Clark'04 Campaign Midwestern Finance Director (Illinois)

Additionally, we are planning several events to follow-up on a very
successful DC happy hour last week. I'll be back in the San Francisco
Bay Area right after celebrating Christmas with family in South
Carolina. Stay tuned for events in Los Angeles on January 5 and in
Silicon Valley and San Francisco on January 6. I also plan to travel
to New York on January 12 and to Chicago sometime soon.

On the MEDIA FRONT, I have shown up on those cable channels a few
times lately -- CNN's Inside Politics, CSpan, and FoxNews. (No, I
will not concede Fox to the right-wing even when I must face-off
against Oliver North!) You can see clips on my website
(www.ChangeTheParty.com).

That brings me to the all-important POLITICAL FRONT. I am calling
each of the 447 DNC members who will vote on a new DNC chairman on
February 10. The reaction has been very positive -- "the DNC needs to
try something innovative and new, it needs to focus outside DC, and it
needs to serve all 50 states and candidates at every level ... and it
needs someone like you, Donnie, who has worked in the states for
almost twenty years." (If you remember, I was grassroots before
grassroots was cool.)

Finally, there are four regional DNC caucus meetings that I will
attend -- Southern in Atlanta (Jan. 8), Midwestern in St. Louis (Jan.
15), Western in Sacramento (Jan. 22), and Northeastern in NYC (Jan.
29).

Happy Holidays!
Donnie

I want Dean for DNC chair. Who is Donnie Fowler? What's he done?

2. I would be happy with Dean, too.
But I was impressed with Fowler's interview on C-Span and am interested in learning more about him too. I don't know very much about him. He mentioned in his e-mail that he'll be in St. Louis on 1/15 so I'll probably go and check it out. I'm not endorsing him with my post - just posting it for others to see, that's all.

3. I have also been impressed with
Donnie Fowler's agenda and his attitude. I like Dean for DNC Chair, but I also like Fowler for the same position. I am still reading and studying their proposals. I don't think we could go wrong with either of them.

5. Fowler would be good for the Party
I've met him, he's got some good ideas like regional offices to get the national committee working more closely with the state parties.
He can raise money.

Another plus- he's a Southerner. We have to win at least ONE southern state to elect a Democratic President.I don't see how Dean can help us make headway in the South. In fact, I think Dean would be more likely to alienate Southern voters.

6. I think you're wrong in your assessment of Dean's appeal to the South
I used to think exactly as you do, but have been dissuaded by actual southerners. Dean's straight talk is actually very appealing to southerners. Just ask a Southerner.

10. That is not true. Here are polls from late 2003, early 2004, Deep South.
From Google cache, a TN poll.
Dean just ahead of Clark in, I think, Jan. 2004, 5 weeks from the TN primary.
http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:MF0C6vxxWgAJ:tennessee4dean.org/modules.php%3Fname%3DNews+%22howard+dean%22,+poll,+sc,+dlc&hl=en

AND a wake up call for the South Carolina DLC...a straw poll, but very strongly for Dean.
http://www.valuejudgment.org/archives/000275.html

SNIP..."The South Carolina DLC (yes, DLC) conducts a straw poll. The arrogant, condescending, damn Yankee wins. That punk.
Wesley Clark 71 (14.2%)
Howard Dean 172 (34.4%)
John Edwards 88 (17.6%)
Dick Gephardt 34 (6.8%)
John Kerry 54 (10.8%)
Dennis Kucinich 18 (3.6%)
Joe Lieberman 14 (2.8%)
Carol Moseley - Braun 5 (1.0%)
Al Sharpton 11 (2.2%)
Other 31 (6.2%)
AND a graphic to go with it.

8. Fowler is a deal breaker for me

Sorry, but he's not a reformer so a Fowler DNC chairmanship means the DNC is a crock of shit.

13. Please elaborate.
Everything that I've read about him so far says that he is running as a reform candidate. Do you know something about him that indicates he is actually not a reformer? Please explain as I am interested in hearing more about him from anyone who has information to share.
