Would Kerry follow Gore and ask the Senators not to "Protest the Count?" |
|
Does anyone think he might have told them he didn't want this to happen for the good of the country?
Since he's very close to Ted Kennedy and Kennedy has said he won't protest and Durbin also seems to be leaning that way...is why I ask this.
Would he feel like Gore that it would just be too divisive?
How would that sound to those of us who have been fighting for fair voting since "Selection 2000? Would Kerry realize that he will lose the "Activist's in the Dem Party" by doing this just to preserve "unity?"
Or, is he "behind the scenes" fighting as some have said. Waiting for his supporters to "spring the trap."

From what I understand, he's going to be in the ME on a fact-finder. He gets back just before the coronation, er, inauguration.
We'll have to see what shakes out.
I'd like to see Robert Byrd stand up. No one does outrage like Byrd.

3. I was thinking about Gore's statement last night.... |
|
At the time, Gore's statement seemed noble. It was to avoid divisiveness that he stepped aside.
Look where we are now. It's been a long time since our country was so divided. It seems that caving in by the leader of the party does not avoid divisiveness.

He has seen the proof. This election was stolen.
I do not get that "we" must try to get along crap. Play nice with these thugs and "they" see it as weakness.
I have called and e mailed all the Senators (demo) to ask them to stand w/ Conyers.

|

with Republican slings and arrows fired at him, until the Supreme Court shut him down. This does not compare.
Edited to add: And the party abandoned him right in the middle of the fight, but he went on. Gore was (and still is) a hero.

And Gore knew before hand that no one was going to stand up for him. He fought harder than any present Democrat has the capacity ...including Howard Dean.

23. Did Bradley fight for the recount in 2000 while Gore left the country? |
|
Do you think it is fair to expect Dean to fight right now when Kerry conceded before 24 hours were up and is leaving the country?
He is talking about the machines being a problem which is more than many other democrats are doing.

11. No...He's faced reality. He lost a VERY close race. |
|
A race we shouldn't have even been in, based on circumstances. Still, the honorable Senator Kerry almost pulled it off. But, as I suspect, he's not a kook and has decided to accept his loss and move-on and prepare to win the next fight.
I wish we would all do the same.

12. So, do you think he told all the Senators NOT to protest the Ohio Electors |
|
because he believes there were no problems worth protesting in Ohio? No problems worth getting the weight of the House and Senate behind to call independent hearings in the Senate as Conyers has in the House with House Dems?

13. No I do NOT! I don't believe in conspiracies. |
|
1) Those senators have minds of their own. They're going to do what they know is right and just.
2) Senators talk. If Kerry had done this, word would have leaked-out.
Conyers is doing what he's doing in order to sling shit at the Idoit in Chief. He can afford to do this because he will never lose an election in his disctrict. He could annouce he's the Anti-Christ and not lose. Plus, he has no political future outside of his district...Why SHOULD he care about facts and his reputation? And really, great for him! If he hurts the Chimp, that helps US!
Senators do not have the same luxuries. They cannot afford to commit political suicide via kooky conspiracy theories.

One of my favorites when conspiracy theoriest have no proof.
It's simple...I stand with the honorable Senator Kerry. You know him, don't you? The guy with the most to lose by taking part in some kook plot...
Oh WAIT!!! I FORGOT!!!
He's Skull and Bones!!! He's been planning all this since his college days!! Yeah...That's the ticket!!

16. Yes, if he decides it's not worth the sacrifice |
|
of political points, but senators have constituents and if they hear from us and decide it's in their best interest, they'll do something. Getting up and contesting a state's electors on Thursday is probably a long shot but they can also hold hearings and investigations later.

and told them to follow their conscience. kerry kicked Gore out the race because "it was his turn". So, It's Kerry's turn to act. Like Joe, he kept his day job and promised will make a difference. I am all eyes and ears.

What difference does it make to you if people question the election? Why take it so personally?
Can you give one good reason why all the "glitches" favored Bush? If not, maybe you should listen rather than shout at people.

I doubt seriously any politician will do something that may cost them their position. The results should be contested not for Kerry but for the people that stood in line for hours to cast their one vote and have the faith that vote will be counted.
Too many people have suffered and died for minorities and women to have the right to vote. Too many people suffered and died to start this nation. It's the principal of the matter, not only the matter itself.

27. That is indeed honorable |
|
But you miss the point of politics.
Politics is all about image of the person running. And politicians are all ways running. While your mission (to protect Democracy) is noble and honorable, it is not the same mission of your Senators (congress critters, mayors, etc.) unless doing so helps them in some way win the next election.
Even if most of the country is still split as to who they wanted as President, MOST of the country has decided that Bush won. To try to invalidate that point will cause MOST of the country to deride that person as somebody opposing the will of the people. And Senator's are high profile targets. They don't have the advantage of being gerrymandered into a particular Republican or Democrat district. They're at the mercy of the ENTIRE state. And as this election just saw, Democrat senators were elected in Red states, and Repub senators were elected in Blue States, so you just can't trust the color of your state any more to be for you.
Sorry to be a wet blanket... but that's the chilling reality.

30. If I were the Dems I would not protest OH but I would |
|
damn sure make election reform a plank in the party's platform. Making every vote count ought to be a promise of every Dem candidate in the next 100 years, assuming the party survives. Not protesting will avoid alienating the average sheeple who don't realize there is a voting problem but would certainly support paper trails and counting every vote in the future. It'd be a win win IMHO.
