Let's take out some of our best Dem Senators! |
|
This seems to be the mindset of some DUers.
Recently there was a post bysomeone who was demanding Carl Levin stand up and contest the election certification. When this person did not get the desired response from Levin's office the hue and cry was raised to get him out of office.
Within 24 hours of seeing that sentiment (along with some of the "good post" replies) I see a story in LBN about how Kerry is lamenting he "lost" the election due to the war.
Why on earth would any Senator take a stand to dispute the election results when our candidate has granted legitimacy to that same election by conceding it on more than one occassion?
What I am curious to know is this: Is it the prevailing opinion here that we should actively campaign against good Dems like Levin if they don't contest the election Kerry is willingly agreeing he lost?
I have to say, it is stuff like that on these boards that keeps me from putting my DU bumper sticker on my car. I sure don't want to send folks to a place where such counterproductive "reasoning" is widely subscribed to.

Why isn't Kerry enjoying a tall glass of shut-the-fuck-up so that any Senator wishing to do so (in spite of being asked to remain silent "for the good of the country") doesn't look like a complete idiot? But no, instead of staying in his quiet, happy place he's out there "yeah, I lost, here's why...." *sigh*
What good is a message if the circumstances are such that the corporate media and the Rethuglican noise machine can effortlessly marginalize the messenger?

On edit, I leave my reply intact, though you have deleted your snarky message.

4. I do believe a senator should contest the election, but I would never |
|
suggest removing him or her from office. We need these senators in office to help voice our concerns and stand up for what is right.

5. I think that you are right as far as Kerry's bone-headed |
|
statements go. One gets the impression from Kerry that he doesn't see any irregularities in the '04 elections at all and that is stupidly unfortunate. However, there was widespread, demonstrable African American and poor voting suppression. Regardless of the outcome of the election, this has got to be brought foreword and investigated, publicly - not, necessarily to overturn the "election", but to ensure the franchise of millions of citizens. I think that, at this point, both the Republicans and Democrats in government are the problem. If the Democrats don't stop their slide to the right and begin acting in the best interests of the people of this country, then they and their Republican colleagues deserve to be voted out of office.

6. it is no longer about kerry. |
|
kerry has shown his colors.
this is about standing up to outright election/voter fraud.
at this point (stay with me here, and this is almost not even an option) but if there was enough proof to make kerry president, i would only begrudgingly accept him because he has shown himself to only be the lesser of two evils.
but we have to deal with the vote legitimacy issue or we will never, EVER AGAIN, have a true election.
that would destroy the experiment that is america. i'm only hoping that we are not already too far gone.

7. you do know that interview is old (Nov 11) and was held till now by |
|
Newsweek, don't you? (And one wonders WHY was it held till only now.)
Whether Kerry still "willingly agrees he lost" 8 weeks later, after so many documented election irregularities, none of us can know. Even then, it's still TRUE that he lost, so the statement is true. It doesn't mean he was beaten HONESTLY.
Another thing none of us can know is what might be going on behind the scenes. We'll know pretty soon, though. So I wouldn't call for Carl Levin's head today. But I might be doing it by tomorrow afternoon, if he stays silent.
As others have pointed out, what would we be saving these "good Dems" for anyway, if we can never be sure of an honest election again? This is the moment. No action on the part of our elected representatives on the integrity of the vote at this time will tell me loud and clear they are not interested in the integrity of the voting process at all.
