Two withdraw from DNC chair race
http://www.cnn.com/2005/ALLPOLITICS/01/05/democrats.chair.ap/index.html

Former Clinton aide Harold Ickes and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk let top Democrats know Tuesday that they won't be running for chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Kirk, who made an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate in 2002, wrote a letter to DNC members Tuesday saying he would not run but was endorsing fellow Texan Martin Frost, a former congressman.

"Martin is ... a winning strategist, innovative grass-roots organizer and tough, disciplined spokesperson," Kirk said in his letter.

1. Ickes out means one more...
...old-line Democrat out of the way of change! I heard he said he felt he wouldn't have the time to lend to the race for the chair. Geez, if that is so, then I am glad he is out, he'd likely not have had time to lend to being chairman either!

I never thought Kirk had a chance to start with, so that's that.

2. Martin Frost
while I am upset at losing him as a representative (because I now have NO Democratic representation on ANY level of government), is way too right-leaning.

3. I thought Frost
was fairly liberal when he had a more liberal district. His leanings had a lot to do with where he was running.

HEHEHEHEHEH! Geez, he'd fit right in with our current crop of "leaders" then!

Lessee, I'll steal from John Mellencamp at this time:"You gotta stand for somethin', or yer gonna fall for anythin'."

5. that's just reality
a very liberal candidate does not win in a conservative district unless they pick their battles carefully. Its just a fact of life. Don't lash out at the politicians. Our job is to make the voters more liberal first, just as after 1964 conservative activists worked for years to make the voters more conservative.
