Clark challenges Kerry’s, others’ openness

MANCHESTER – Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark’s campaign tried to seize the moral high ground on public disclosure Monday, daring John Kerry and all other primary hopefuls to match his openness on income sources and financial ties.

National Chairman Eli Segal invited Kerry to deliver his tax returns and specify all meetings he had with lobbyists during his four terms, as Kerry said he would do Sunday while on ABC-TV’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.’’

The dare comes a few days after the Kerry campaign sent out a stinging, attack mailing critical of Clark’s role as a lobbyist, including helping a Little Rock, Ark., homeland security firm get meetings with Vice President Dick Cheney and former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill.

Axciom Inc. paid Clark at least $420,000 to market a database that some civil libertarians claim amounts to an invasion of privacy, though Clark maintains it would safely guard the personal information of citizens.
