Colin Powell pardons himself by saying that tsunami worse than 'Nam war.
There are 150,000+ dead as a result of the south Asia tsunami. Only 500 or so were massacred at My Lai. Maj. Colin Powell participated in the cover-up of My Lai. How can Powell speak of the horrors of war without reference to My Lai? It is mind-boggling.

But My Lai is chicken-shit compared to the tsunami. However, My Lai was a war crime. Tsunami was not. My Lai was an atrocity that should have been prosecuted at the Hague. Colin Powell, among others, should have been in the dock.

My Lai-4. Never forget.

1. you know, as powell tours the tsunami area saying he's never seen such a
catastrophe (destruction and dead bodies) ... i say to myself, how hypocritical... how about the bush/rumsfeld/powell/rice created catastrophe in iraq?

2. That is certainly a valid question.
Johns-Hopkins research estimates over 100,000 Iraqis killed in this illegal and immoral war. But that pales against the millions of Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians killed at our hands during that fiasco.

8. Colin never saw an arc-light bombing run. I did.
I watched the indiscriminate killing of thousands of Laotians from my nighttime perch over the Ho Chi Mihn Trail. The B-52s were high above in an ink-black sky, invisible to and unheard by their victims. Nixon and Kissinger sat in the basement of the White House, "chuckling" as Vachel Lindsey would say, over their maimings. The very fact that I witnessed all that, and never said a thing at the time, makes me feel dirty. Ah, but I have to live with it every night after I close my eyes to sleep. The "perchance to dream" part is hell for some of us. Vietnam, a gift that keeps giving. It will end up killing me. One way or another.

4. To me,
besides body counts, war and natural disasters aren't even a parallel analogy. I mean hello? Why even compare the two?

What is his point in doing that? Subliminal message to those people not happy with the Iraq war that the tsunami is worse?

Comparing apples to bookshelves.

13. Bingo, Lynn. Bing-fucking-go!
The war criminals love this tsunami. It is a perfect cover-story. Absolutely perfect! Bu$h really is a lucky motherfucker. It took three days for Rove to figure it out, but by 12/30 they had a story.

wasting such a HUGE opportunity to look good; he should have come out right away with a $1 billion gift offer and blown the socks off the world, esp the Muslims. Instead there he sat, squandering it all away. Again.

And now they're scrubbing the wasted 3 days and becoming the LEAD RELIEF TEAM full of heart-warming propaganda pilot-kid photos and at the same time, BONUS, they're going to distract from Iraq and make the war look like a walk in the park.

Well...the nastier they are, the harder they fall?

14. That is incorrect.
In my opinion, it is always worse when human beings voluntarily impose death and destruction. There is enough suffering to be found in natural disasters and accidents without us perpetuating it amongst ourselves.
