Bush contributes $10,000 in personal funds for tsunami relief

Jan. 5, 2005 | Washington -- President Bush, who has pledged $350 million in U.S. aid to help victims of Asian countries ravaged by the tsunami, has contributed $10,000 from his personal funds to the relief effort, his spokesman said Wednesday.

In a speech on legal issues in Collinsville, Ill., Bush praised the U.S. military for its "heroic work" in assisting tsunami victims and urged Americans to continue to open their wallets.

"The most important contribution a person can make is cash," Bush said. "There's huge generosity here in America."

Scott McClellan, White House press secretary, told reporters traveling with Bush to Illinois that the president -- himself a multimillionaire -- has written checks to several organizations listed on a Web site set up to direct Americans to various reputable charities collecting private contributions for tsunami relief. McClellan would not identify the organizations to which Bush contributed.

3. That changes everything! See? Sandra Bullock didn't need
to contribute $1 million yesterday to the Red Cross. She's maybe just upstaging him. She just did it before he did.

4. I'll bet she has a lot less money than he does.
He ought to be embarrassed. $10,000 for him is pocket change.

8. Micheal Schumacher donated $10 million.
And it naturally makes sense that one would find bigger signs of a social concience at a Formula One circuit than in the White House.

7. It's the least he can do...
given how much he stands to gain when all the rebuilding "contracts" from US
loans are assigned to his good ole' boy network of Repub owned companies.

Maybe even Halliburton can get in on the action.

10. Didn't the Freeps wet their pants over Sandra Bullock's
million dollar contribution?

This is laughable, I don't have near the funds and my contribution beats his whole, percentagewise.

11. Money is the most important contribution? Ya know, this is the guy
who loves to clear brush at the ranch. Maybe he could pitch in cleaning up some of the coastline?
