When writing to Republicans, sound like a Republican |
|
It occurred to me, while viewing the C-SPAN coverage of the Electoral Debates, that many Republicans do not feel these issues of voter disenfranchisement warrant immediate attention.
We, as citizens behind relatively anonymous e-mail addresses, are relatively indistinguishable from the Republican supporters these representatives feel they are servicing by labeling such exercises in democracy as a waste of time. Why not practice a little role playing?
Write your Republican representatives. Feel free to pose as concerned Republican citizens -- as it is demonstrated these are the only citizens worth listening to. Issue statements that your trust in the Democratic process may start to waiver if actions are not taken to ensure everyone the right to have their vote tallied. Most importantly, when writing to Republicans, sound like a Republican. This is a fundamental issue, but unfortunately any call to action from the left will serve as evidence of 'sour grapes.' Feel free to adopt the Republican frame of mentality. Anything else will simply be disregarded.

I don't think I could even begin to know how and I live in a blood red state and I'm surrounded by the idiots. Thougths like that are scary and make me want to cry. Besides, I always prefer to sound rational, so I tend to stay away from Republican "reasoning."

I have actually done this ever since I have been "represented" by Republicans, beginning with the thankfully now-gone-away Newt Gingrich. You don't really have to sound like them - just assure them you usually support them but just can't on this issue. I am writing my two Repub Senators now to tell them how embarrassed I am, as a Republican, by their behavior in the hearings yesterday because they made "us" look like we didn't care about the voters.

As a lifelong Republican, Christian and American I am writing you to ask that you look into this disenfranchisement business all the dark people are complaining about.
Last November, our maid, our cook and gardeners were out ALL DAY standing in line waiting for the one working voting machine in their precinct. My dear wife, Trixie, had to fix her own drinks and our daughter, Bimbette, had to dress herself. Now, I have worked long and hard for my inheritance and I think I deserve some of the benefits of being an American. There is no reason why I should have to drive myself to work just because we need to make sure no Democrats get elected. Enclosed is a check for $5,000 instead of my usual $5,500 - that's just how serious I am about this. Hail Bush, T.H. III
