CNN analyst compares Dean to Hitler
Just now, CNN had yet another breathless segment about Howard Dean's Tuesday night speech. It was a three-way hate fest among the anchor and the two talking heads, which is what we'd expect. ("Do you think he might have some anger management problems?" Kira Phillips asks breathlessly, for instance.)

But then the one talking head pulls this out:

"Hitler would not have done well on TV ... and while Dean certainly can't be compared to anyone as evil as that ..."

The talking head was Eric Dezenhall, and what CNN didn't tell you was this tidbit:

Eric served in the Reagan White House in the offices of Communications and Presidential Personnel in the early 1980s.

The media whores are at it again.

1. wow
While I'm no fan of Dean, that is seriously fucked up. Something needs to be done about our media, all of it.

2. I'm sure Gillespie will be absolutely outraged about the comparison
Oh, wait. What am I thinking? Hitler was being compared to a Democrat, not a Republican. That makes it all just peachy-keen.

I guess it's National "Dump-On-Dean" Day, eh?

3. Hitler would have done well on TV
The Germans were the first to broadcast TV and made effective use of news reels.

I wonder how many complaints there will be that Dean is being compared to Hitler. I mean with Bush it was pure ideological hatred to compare him to Hitler right...:eyes:

5. In the time he lived, I think you're right. Today, I'm not so sure

Before the days of boom mikes and clip on mikes, yelling was out of necessity a more popular oratory style.

So today I think Hitler would have had to take it down a thousand or he would be perceived as a deranged screaming head.

10. not necessarily
you're somewhat right, but the message of Hitler as an extremist was one of anger and persuasion. He lived off his ill-advised passion and I think that would have been something that would not have affected him.

Passion in speaking is good.

17. Oh yes, but back then what was perceived as passion

might be seen more as yelling today. I think the line is control. If it looks like the person is using passion, that's good.

When it looks like the passion is using the person, that's not so good.

7. Just Ask Leni
I'd say Hitler was a LOT more concerned with his image than Dean was last night.

Radio and film was an integral part of the rise of fascism.

Even RW'ers in the US tried to use news real footage of Hitler to scare Americans into voting for corporation-friendly wealth-shifting Republicans.

4. I saw that...
But at least the a-hole said Dean was "not as evil as Hitler".

Mostly I was wondering how they could describe a guy who was smiling and clearly having a good time as "angry".

I think that covers it. May they reap their ugly rewards for that kind of demagoguery.

15. yep. Dean is hitler and I'm a storm trooper
I'm also a latte drinking freak show and any politician who actually shows an emotion other than fake concern MUST have "anger issues". Sure this was on CNN but is it really all that different from FR, Drudge, or DU?

18. Too bad
they can't make the easier comparisons with bushco and the neocon rise, policy today and Hitler's rise (don't flame me about comparing bush to Hitler because I won't go that far, but as long as they are going that route, its much easier to make that leap with the present situation).

24. How does Dezenhall KNOW how Hitler would have done on TV?
We have film footage of Hitler, and reportedly Hitler was an orator par excellance.

Another example of the freaking "lib'ral media" at work. This is really unacceptable.

28. I guess stuff like this is only hate speech
when it is said against the fuhrer (sp). I have given up on watching CNN, I refuse to watch Fox - made an exception for the one debate.
CSpan will be my news sourve from here on out. I'll rely on DU for any alerts on anything worthy of my watching, that and the Dean blog.
